poofed post

There was one, it got kind of side tracked from the original post of someone looking for workers and had no applicants. Some associated this with unemployment payments. I tried to get my 2¢ in but just when I posted it got erased. Maybe I was the problem :)

If it got poofed, good riddance. There are 4 words at the top of this site that, thru the years, more people are not paying attention to.

Our news services used to give us the news, now even they are becoming a sounding board for people who crave attention.

It"s called "Dumbing Down America".

Just a thought i have collected unemployment at times one time i called in told them i had just got a large check and it didnt seem right i got unemployment he said you normaly do that and i said yes then i asked him what he would do he said he take it.its been a safety net for me but i dont like to depend on it right now i have got hurt on the job but because i got the farm no workers comp and after getting it they changed there mind and want to take it away its going to make it tough to make the farm payments without two jobs and cant get cleared to go back to work until may

Dumbing down is started in the schools from the get go till they had a doctors degree. Then you have the problems like a guy getting a 1/4 mil to be a school super intendent and they wonder where money for schools are going.

I was just curious it had just started, had to leave for awhile and couldn't find it when I came back. wondered what some of the responses would be.

It was mine that got poofed All I was asking if everyone else had proplems getting workers. It ran off on another direction

Lets get the post going straight again. Here in my area, any large hardware store has men standing around begging for work. Kind of feel sorry for them. Stan

Obviously, you didn't see the original post. It had nothing to do with politics, it was merely a discussion concerning availablity of help when needed and that applies to farming which includes TRACTORS! So, don't say "good riddance" until you know the facts. As in so many cases, I guess someone turned it into a political thing.

That's the trouble, people will not move to where the work is, there are plenty of jobs if people were willing to relocate. I saw that happen when they closed the paper mill I retired from. Some guys move, but some highly skilled maintenance people will not move 150 miles for a job, can't leave their roots!

Here we go with something I want to rant on. CASE Last week I had to pay the taxes on the old farm. COCKSHUT In the tax office the lady was very nice but when I looked up on the glass divider I wanted to have a fit. ALLIS CHALMERS There was a pie chart as to where your tax dollars went. JOHN DEERE 3% for municiple expense. something like %20 for roads and buildings. There were one or two other little things. INGERSOLL RAND 90% for the damn High school and 180% for the little twerps in Grammer school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vertualy 3/4 of the chart was school.FORD I went to public school from 1955 til 1965 and went to private high school and payed most of my college. WHY AM I STILL PAYING FOR THIS????!!!! Im 63 years old already!!!!You want kids YOU pay for them! My Rant done. Jeffcat

If you went to public school for eleven years, high school for x years, college for x years, you should have learned that paying for education is a continuum.....your grandparents paid, then your parents paid, now it"s your turn, then your kids turn to pay. BTW....your numbers total more than 100%. Maybe you missed a few days in math class.

I was told that a lot of people wont look for work because they might find it
anybody know of a town kid that can mow hay back in the day those were the jobs to have

Jeff,
Wow! Me thinks you had trouble with "new math" in school; adding up 3% and 20% and 90% and 180% makes "vertualy" 100%!!!

As was explained to you on this post, you went to free grade school paid for by the generation before you. The generation before you went to free school paid for by their previous generation.
Now it is your turn.

I don"t have any children in school anymore...but I pay for the children in school today, that is just the way life is in this country. I only hope they get a good education and make positive contributions to our society in a few short years. My highest hopes for them are that they are far more intelligent than the examples they see every day around them.

This is NOT a rant...I"m an adult and got over ranting when I was 12.

PS Ingersoll Rand??? Funny!

Shady,
Oh, so the post was not about politics? Well then, I "obviously" stand corrected as you can see where I "ranted" about it and called it political. (Did I really, who? where? when?).

Lets see now...no help goes to farming goes to tractors... I think I got it! Maybe we should add fixing a politically-challenged tractor to your equation!! Now I understand it all....but what about if we need parts? Let's just mention "no help" so we can go straight to "parts". This is getting easier now. And obviously more fun!

I certainly recall the thread. It was about the difficulty hiring good help. I have the problem, just like you probably do. But then the constant politicos started in again with the "it's is all "O's" fault craaaaaaaapola".

I've been here on this farm for 12 years and I have had a problem hiring good help for 12 years. He ain't been no.1 in DC for 12 years. So lets talk about the problem like rationale business people.

I am frustrated when I can not get a guy to come fix the rain gutters on my barns, even when he will be here only 2 hours and the bill will be $300. But the problem did not suddenly happen 5 years ago.

So lets quit turning everything into a poitical rant. How do we as hard working Americans,
re-install the work ethic? You can bet that the talk show heads don't want to do it. That would end their gravy train of listeners, instead of actually doing something to fix it.

That is a big part of the problem. Eastern Kentucky is a perfect example. Unemployent 20% and no hope of a reduction. But the people refuse to leave the mountains. I don't know why.
I left my poor little Indiana hometown to go to college and never moved back. Some people can leave and some can not. It does not seem to be a conscious decision, just a barrier some can not cross.

Edd in KY- I agree with you. I feel a lot of the negative responses towards our current government is because the POTUS is BLACK. It's not about politics. Some people just can't seem to get out of the 1950's.

Greg

Well, problems hiring workers usually goes hand in hand with the rate of pay and the working conditions. You will not find many to do hard toiling labor unless you pay. If you can't afford to pay that much, better buy another machine. The days of backbreaking heavy labor are gone. gobble

Edd in KY- Maybe I can help you understand there culture here in Eastern Kentucky.

We must respect and take care of our elders. Just before my dad died, he made me promise him to take care of my mom and sister. Mom is in frail health at age 74 Just got back from her house(35 minute drive). She had called and said she had fallen and could not get up. Got there and took care of her and she is doing better She has multiple doctor appoints weekly which I have to take her to.

My sister is legally blind and can't drive. I have to take care of her needs also. We all live in a rural area so, getting anywhere is a chore.

I have two degrees and worked as a Chemist for 20 years at a large petroleum complex. My job was automated and many of us were "downsized".

Edd, You are correct. There are very few jobs in this area. Dollar General is about the best you find around here. As for relocating...I have too many responsibilities here to do that.

Now for the bad part, I'm 54 and most employers don't want to hire someone my age. It seems I'm too "over-qualified" to work for them .

I'll stop here before I go into a 'rant'.

Greg

Russ- How do you feel they are going to be able to afford to relocate? Most people I know, will 'hang' on trying to find a job locally. By then, their savings are depleted and they don't really have enough money to relocate.

You say you are retired from a paper mill. Well, times have changed and so has the job opportunities. It's not like it was in the good ole days when one could leave a job and walk down the street and have another job in the same day.

Greg

Ah, yes, I remember you making the thread political. Remember when you stated that the unemployment rate went up 4% between Aug 2008-Jan 2009? Ya, making up lies to line up with your warped political views never ends up well, especially when looking up unemployment rates is so easy.

My question tonight is the same as last night, why would you make up a lie that is so easy to check up on? Did you think you would get away with it? Did you think that nobody would check it? Did you think that if you just blindly repeat it over and over people would be dumb enough to believe it? Inquiring minds want to know.

If you guys read with a little care I had in there a few odds and ends. The real was 46% for high school and 178% for grammer. NOW I have no kids. I have been working since I was 19 and that is 1969. NEVER unemplyed or on the government dole. I think I have payed back my debt MANY times over to educate the future of a great country that is now so far down the toilet if you turn around you can"t see day light any more. The next time I go to the tax office I will post a picture of that pie chart and you can get sick to your stomach. Go to your own local tax office and see if they will tell you how your taxes are pi$$ed away. Ingersoll rand is a garden tractor that is the same thing as a CASS. Jeffcat

I didn't accuse you of "ranting". I will end this conversation by saying that I refuse to enter a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent!

Well, here in Ny full welfare benifits amount to something like the equivilent of $33,000 per year in wages. Sort of self explanitory. And yes, since the 1960's schools have been preaching that you don't want to work in the trades, you need to go to college and "make" something of yourself, instead of working in the trades.

Just checked the data, Fed Bureau of labor statistics. Google it for facts. It is easy to do this homework. Almost as easy as listening to the radio for facts. Unemployment went wild when the banking crisis hit...fall of 2008 and kept climbing. The ship was already sinking fast when a new Captain got the wheel.

Unemployment 4% all of 2007, then 7.8% January of 2009.

I am not being political, I am trying to be analytical, like a good mechanic who checks the systems and carefully assesses potential causes for the problem, before wasting time and money fixing something that is not the cause.

Greg, I do understand the challenges you face. The same people on here that rant about the unemployed, are mostly old guys, like me, that do not want to face the fact that our nation has changed and jobs are few and far between, especilly in rural America. That is why I point out the rapid jump in unemployment a few years ago, 2008. Those people were volunteerily working, but now their jobs have diasappeared. That is why an added 3% are unemployed.

However, It is very tough to find anyone to do odd jobs, mow, weedwack, drive a tractor, clean fencerows etc etc etc

Nope, dont start lying again. You stated as fact that unemployment went up 4% between aug. 2008 and jan 2009. I wanted to know why you made that up? Why would you lie about that? I looked it up and posted a link to the statistics that proved you were lying. I wanted to know then and have asked several times since then, why you would lie about that.

So how about it, please tell us, why are you lying?
