Local Case I-H dealer used to sell I-H square balers. He would tell you that his red baler was THE baler to own. Then a few years passed and he told us the red and black inline square baler was light years ahead of everyone. ( baler was built by Hesston.) Now he is having hay meetings to tell you you are behind if you dont own a red one, (built by New Holland). Anyone else notice their dealer flip flopping on what you should buy?

Your dealer will tell you to buy whatever they happen to be selling at the moment, more than likely. They are not unbiased, and some are more honest than others.

The funny thing I learned a few years ago is when Hesston made their "straight through" baler they bought the patent rights from Minneapolis Moline as they had a straight through design in the mid 1950s with the model 760 Balemaster. I believe New Idea made a straight through baler as well in the mid 50s but like less than 10 or 20 of them as it didn't work right. I agree....I don't think the dealers really care as they are just a salesman...you buy from them you have the best...until they sell something else.

Applies to everything in life depending on where the money is. Feel free to read between the lines.

Strange ain't it. We have a car dealer that sells new cars and trucks for about five different companies, I can't go there because somebody has to tell a lie about something.

Around here, it seems that all the "natives" have nicknames. One, known as the "parrot", had two BIL who were machinery dealers. Different colors. Whoever gave him the best deal always had the line that "we" should buy. (Kevin- I KNOW you are smiling!).

I bought an off-brand MIG welder (STP, or somethign like that) from welding supply outfit- it was a great price, and the guy told me the great features. Worked OK for awhile, then wouldn't advance the wire properly. Went online, found that it was a problem with the circuit board, the company was out of business, and parts were no longer available. Went back to the store and complained to the guy who sold it to me- turns out that the great price was because they had had so much trouble with them and were closing them out. So then he starts trying to sell me a different one- I just smiled, and as I left said "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me."

Guy lived next door when my son moved into a place- was about equally good as a neighbor.

I was raised in the farm machinery business. As a dealer I adopted a moto. "Don't knock the competition, as tomarrow you may be selling it".
You can't close your doors because a company stopped building something, or the company was bought by another.

The dealer I buy my cars and pickups from sells used one year old program cars of every make. The company was owned by a Ford Dealer and is now owned by a Chrysler/Dodge dealer. Last car I bought was last September. It was a Lincoln and the salesman showed me several makes but I chose my favorite car from the lot of over 200 2012-13 of every make. The make. year, miles, and price is on the windshield, They do very little haggling on price. I plan to go back

Meh...they are salesmen. Although it really is funny when they have to eat crow.
I know a local combine salesman who was dead against any combine that had a rotor. Until the brand that he sold finally came out with a rotor combine. Suddenly, it's the best thing since sliced bread.

When I was in business JD came out with their skid steers. My salesman told me NOT to even look at them! He said the engineers tested them in the dessert and when they started selling them a number of guys bought them for dirt and plowing snow. Problem was the orifices the hyd system used were too small and the hydraulics wouldn't work when the temperatures were in the 20"s. Lost some customers and the dealer I used quit selling them and went back to selling Mustangs!

I've been to the JD desert proving grounds in AZ several times - but they've since lost their lease from the reservation.

After a field day for fleet customers, I got a call from a JD engineer asking what I thought of their skid loader. I changed the subject and asked him when they were coming out with their new model. Young fella got all flustered and asked me what I had heard. I kind of ruined his call, but I knew that research and development in an ongoing thing so just acted like I knew all about.

don't know if you're aware of the fact but new holland (fiat) owns case ih so all of their equipment is pretty much the same but i'd say the majority of dealers are that way i don't think they're gonna tell you some other brand is a better choice whether it is or not and whether they know it or not
