oliver 1855 gas how many ?

Dont know the answer...But when I was a teenager,a neighbor had a 1755 gas as his big tractor on 160 acres.A 770 gas was the #2 tractor. Only gas 50/55 sreies tractor I ve ever seen....

I hope it doesn't burn anymore gas than my 1850 when under full load. I love the tractor, very strong, but holy cow I know why it has three tanks.

Not to high jack the thread, but a question.Who or for what reason did anyone buy a 100HP gas tractor to farm with.Every body but Oliver had a diesel back in the early 60s,4010s,806s,190XTs,1100s,MMs.By Oliver not bringing 1800 diesels out for 6-8 months after the gassers, they lost a whole lot of sales and never recovered.I had never seen a Gas 4010-4020 or 806 until maybe 10 yrs.ago when they started showing up in antique super stock tractor pulls.Sorry for the long post, but maybe get some inlightning.

The reason I'd say is because they were cheaper, and gas is cheaper than diesel not to mention a gas motor is cheaper to work on/maintain than a diesel, and for anyone using a tractor in the winter the gas will start over a diesel anyday of the week. And in the same tractor, the diesel won't show the gas much they should be basically the same, just use a bit more fuel. No different than people buying a l.p. tractor new.

You said: .By Oliver not bringing 1800 diesels out for 6-8 months after the gassers, they lost a whole lot of sales and never recovered. I don't know where you got your information, but the 1800 diesel models were introduced at the same time the 1800 gas & L P models were.

I will stick with what I said, the family was in the ag business then and the ONLY Oliver 1800s at first were GAS for several months.Did too many demos and that was the only model available to put up against JDs&IH. But I was wrong on the ACs190XT,they didn't come out till 1965.

its not in Northern Indiana is it?

I have a friend with one of each both gasers, both narrow front. I think he has a gas, narrow front 1650 too.

as time went on gasers were less and less popular. I remember as a kid in the early/mid 70's some farmers still didn't like diesel tractors.

I will take your word for it,but that was the biggest complaint the dealers had then was no 1800As diesels to sell at first,My question on here was because of all the people talking about their 80Horse and up gas tractors. That was a unheard of thing around after 60-61 and it is something I wondered about.

Dont think you know your butt from a hole in the ground! Oliver offered a diesel option in every power size starting with the Super series in 1954, something no other tractor manufacturer could claim at the time. A check of the production records will show diesel models being built on the first day of production in every instance. For the life of me I don't know where some people come up with such nonsense. As for why would anyone buy a large gasoline powered tractor I'll offer this. In our area of Iowa many farmers prefered gas tractors through the end of the 1960s. While dad switched to diesel power in October 1950 and never looked back, our next door neighbor ran an 1850 and M-M 670 gas as his main field tractors until 1977! While he was about the last gas holdout there were 4020 and 806 gassers in the area not too long before this. For some reason that's what they wanted. I think you always saw more Oliver gas tractors compared to other makes because they tended to be more fuel efficient. Oliver spent a lot of time and money on cylinder head research and it paid off in economy records at Nebraska. Obviously a diesel is far more efficent, but an Oliver will compare quite favorably to other gas tractors of similar size and horsepower.
