Are they any good? I probably won't save any money after the shipping but they do have quite a selection to choose from. I need a couple of tires for the pickup and thought I'd give them a shot. I have always patronized my hometown dealers but the ones I trust would probably have to order them anyway. What kind of experience have you had with them? Jim

Edit- I forgot to mention I have my own tire changer and a cheap freebie bubble balancer that came with it.

I have not used them but I know some who have and were happy with them.
I always figured by the time you get them shipped and then pay local mounting and balancing I'd be paying more then just buying local.
The snow tire and wheel packages already mounted ready to go I wish I'd of bought them instead of what I did for my car I'd been money ahead. I thought I could get away with 2 on the front wheel drive front end and I'm here to tell you I could not. I needed all four to keep the back end in line when going around corners even just making a turn in town going slow it still wanted to kick out on me.

Try tirebuyer.com They generally have free shipping. I' purchased at least four sets of tires from them. Prices are pretty good.

I bought from TireRack for years. No complaints. I
then switched to www.tires-easy.com Better
prices, better selection and cheaper shipping.
Last car tires I got were for my wife's diesel
Volkswagen Jetta. The tires were $21 each and $11
each to ship to NY and no tax. Great deal as I
see it. I just got a set of load-range D truck
tires in 14" for my Toyota motorhome. Shipping was
$12.50 each.

A friend of mine uses Tirebuyer.com,some tires have
free shipping. His FIL owns a garage and wasn't
able to get him tires as cheap as tirebuyer even at
cost.

I have purchased a few sets of tires from them, including a couple tire and wheel packages. Nothing bad to say at all. shipping was reasonable.

Their selection is great.

back in 05 i bought a set of general grabber ats from them. i got them for a good price, had them sent to a local tire store which mounted and balanced them for 15.00 ea and i still came ahead. the tires are great, a little harder rubber so they last longer, smooth on the hwy, grabbed the mudd like nobodies business. this last time however they have adjusted there prices. your just as well to buy them at walmart.com and have them install em there. less hassle and save yourself 8 bucks on install. good luck.

So what happens if one of those tires has a defect? Do you pay to ship it back, and then pay for shipping again on the replacement?

That"s a
Good question Rusty. I don"t
have an answer. With the kind
of warranty luck I"ve had lately
it doesn"t matter much
anymore. Jim

I've used Tire Rack. Saved a little, but if I had a mount and balance machine could save a lot!

The savings on the sales tax and disposal fees was worth more than the shipping.

Never bought from them, but I drive past the place about every other day. Seems like they're always running something on their test track.

The founder, Peter Veldman died the other day. He did alot of good in the community and easily could have packed up and went anywhere else when the business grew. RIP.

I have been happy with TireRack.com. I take the wheels and tires to a local alignment shop that does not sell tires, but can mount and balance. They just bind two tires together, slap a UPS sticker on them and ship them out.

Poor TireRack.com. I love the site and do all my research there--then call the local discount tire store and ask for the specific tires I want. They get them from wherever they normally get them and install them for me.

I've been buying tires from them for years. I bought a new pickup truck in December and for obvious reasons, needed snow tires pretty quick. I called the local tire dealer and they quoted me a price (high) on 4 Michelins and said it would take a week to get them. I called Tire Rack and the tires were at my back door the next day.

In NC at least you are supposed to pay state sales tax on online/mailorder purchases with your state tax return if you didn't when you bought the item. I do but I know people who just claim they don't buy things online.

To me, it's a pisz poor question. In 40+ years, I've never had a Michelin tire fail. Never. I drive 5000 miles a month.

Bought wrecked with new GOODYEARS,one was cut, local dealer told me it would be hard to get and real high priced.
Went to TIRERACK,ordered the exact tire way less, and it was here ,from LAS VEGAS warehouse,in a few days. Good tire, price, and service.

Tire should be warranted by anyone that sells that
brand of tire. The warranty lies with the tire
manufacturer not the seller.

I use Sams for vehicle tires. They have a very hazzard warranty. My local dealer has a bad habit of selling seconds or no names.

I have bought several sets from them over the past few years.
The last set of studded snows arrived with no studs. Spent 3
days being accused of changing my order before they finally
admitted to making the mistake. After that they shipped some
different ones and paid the return shipping on the others. I
wasn't upset that there was a mistake, it just shouldn't be that
difficult to get the problem solved.

I generally buy tires online because I can get what I want, not
what the local dealer wants to sell. Went into a local shop to
price tires for the wife's car, told them I wanted a premium tire,
the gave a price for bargain imports???

The tire rack might be cheaper, but I use the tire barn because for $50 I get mounting, life time rotating and balancing and road hazard, including repairing flats for free. Road hazard along is something you may not get with the tire rack.

I refuse to buy tires at Sam's Club after they pulled a "bait and switch" on me about 15 years ago.

I priced a set of four tires in their showroom and found a set I liked at a good price. I went back three days later to buy a set and was told those particular tires had all been returned to the distributor, and the ones they were selling as the equivalent just happened to be $20 per tire higher in price.

I let it drop without buying any, but before I left the store I wandered back to the tire racks and, Glory Be!, there were seven of the ones I originally looked at still on the racks.

They blew a sale.

You have to watch Sam's Club. Before I quit going there, I saw stuff selling there for more than the same items were selling for on the shelf at Walmart. It's all a big marketing scheme to make people think they're saving money.

We used to buy a lot of tires from them, stuff that was hard to get from our regular suppliers. They were not really cheaper just more tire to choose from.

I have bought from them in the past with no problems. Shop around the net. I have been buying from other online sellers, some of which have free shipping.
Three years ago I bought a computer balance and this year I bought a rim clamp tire changer.

I've looked at tire rack but found that the lower price is ofset by shipping, and the same tire can be had off evilpay cheaper.

Trouble with tires at walmart and sam's, if it says "walmart" on the side, the liner is really thin. A friend runs the tire shop at the co-op and says he has to be real careful roughing the liner to glue a patch in.

Thanks for the responses. I quickly browsed the sites you guys mentioned and my head started spinning so I quit for awhile. LOL!

The bait and switch comment reminds me of an experience I had with Sears in the fall of 69. I was a young green kid just out of high school and into college and I needed tires for my 59 Chevy. Bought a set on sale from Sears. The tread was only half as deep as it should have been for a new tire but they were cheap. A month later a belt broke in one of the tires. Went back to Sears for warranty and the first thing they did was measure the shallow tread, comparing it to a new one that had a lot deeper tread than these had when THEY were new. I told them these were only a month old and that was the tread depth they had new. He accused me of burning the tread off, being a kid. This car had a six cylinder. Burning rubber was next to impossible. They would not warranty it because they say the minimum tread depth was past. I have never even considered Sears for new tires since then and that was 44 years ago. Jim

My son bought a set of tires from them. He priced them locally too. For very close to what the local dealer wanted for tires and installation he got tires, new wheels, mounted and balanced, and delivered in two days.

I just checked all of the sites listed in this post, looking at the tires I put on any of my vehicles in the last 2 years. I just don't understand it I guess, but each one I looked at cost MORE than what I paid for mine installed......

I have had only good experience with Sams club tires and
service. Yes they have hazard coverage, I had to use it once.

I bought my truck tires from them. The $100 shipping was a trade off for the sales tax I would have to pay locally. I still saved $400 from what the local shop wanted and that includes the local shop mounting and balancing them.

TR is the ONLY place i buy tires. I admit though that they are only 35 miles away (South Bend) so its not a problem. No one can come close to their prices. Service is very good.

ah. I didn't know he passed away.

you could always see him in the pick-up/installation area working as hard as the youg bucks, except he was clean.

One time when they were still in one of the old studebaker buildings i stopped to pick up tires and he drove me and my daughter thru the warehouse on the little undustrial golf-car sized truck to pick up our tires. we drove and drove and drove then stopped, he walked over to a pile of tires, picked out the 2 i ordered put them on the truck and headed back up front. I think he even took the little truck out to my car to load them in the trunk. I was always inpressed by that. He did NOT have to work.
