Corn bins and birds

Larry @ Stines corner's photos reminded me of something I've wondered about. His third photo shows a wire sided corn bin. Why don't birds get the corn? I would think they would be haning on the sides, trying to get at the kernels.

I have not eaten crow, although, many suggest I should. I still with Doves. Now I stick with #2 shelled yellow corn. No birds, but I can buy steak or at least hotdogs, and I don't have to pluck a hotdog, except from the bun of sleepy toddler not paying attention.

If feathers bother you, you can always skin them, get to the breast, and pan sear it with onions, garlic, wild dill, and some baby potatoes in olive oil.

Just try not to swallow the buckshot. a good cook will get it all out first.

It's a nice middle of the day meal. Just something small to make you feel big. Have a steak afterwards and you feel like a lion king who can eat anyone he wants.

Just my 2 cents with some butter, garlic, dill, onions, potatoes, and the pan sauce drizzled over some butter beans with course salt and ground pepper.

They do, to a point. I would guess that a full corn kernel would be do big and too hard to digest for a sparrow or finch. I know they LOVE cracked corn, like has come out of a grinder mixer. A larger bird like a duck, goose, pheasant can probably handle the full kernel, but can't hang onto the outside of a metal corn crib.

Deer do more damage than birds. Last year Jeff lost an estimate 100 bu. from his 2 cribs to deer. There were at times 100 deer withing 30 feet of his cribs. I wish I had taken a pic of the cribs, they looked like you had pulled corn out the bottom on the sides because the cobs had started to slide down the side of the crib from the loss.
