grain drill tires?

Has anyone found a place that still sells the 2 rib grain drill tires?

I have an older Massey #33 drill that needs some new tires and I was trying to find the 2 rib tires, but I can't find any. No local supplier has even heard of them, and looking on the internet I can't pinpoint any, either. Maybe I am looking up the wrong thing. Or?

If I can't find any and no one else can either (hahaha), what would you use for tires? 3 rib tractor fronts? 5 rib implement tires? Tire height is a bit of a concern and since I can't find anything in the book about axle height, or outside tire diameter, and the previous owner installed some old recap truck tires circa 1970; I am not sure which direction to go in. I guess I could just use some old truck tires, but with some many metric conversions, I wouldn't even know what size to look for.

Thanks in advance,

John

On truck tire sizes , The book for my VanBrunt tells tire size in inches from the ground up to the top of the tire or to center of the hub , I forget which . You might check your overall inches then check a tire conversion chart .

TGIN,

I just took a walk out there and it looks like I'll have to pick a side! One tire is taller than the other. I never noticed... my air is froze up, so I can't add air to see if it will level out. I never noticed before.

I'm looking for a conversion chart online now...

Thanks

I didn't look at them very close but at the Louisville farm show
Great Plains still uses them on some of there drills.

Titan tire has what they call a planter tire on their web site in the specialty tire division . The description says 2 rib , one on each shoulder but the picture doesn"t look like the marker tires I remember and they are $440 a piece . Hope this helps , Deluxe

Nice! I think I found them. but wow... I think the grain drill is only worth $1000 tops, and a pair will be $500! yikes!

Firestone calls them Duo Rib planter tires.

that is the magic word. "planter" tires... I guess I think of a drill as a drill, not a planter, but I guess it is a planter, huh?

This reminds me of the 323 NI corn picker I sold a few years ago. It had a bad tire and I told the guy I would put a new tire on it included in the sale price of $750. The tire cost $290... I was expecting $100 at the worst. I guess the price of tires can be included in the list of all the things that keep going up except my paycheck!

Jon I have some good 20inch tires off of a JD drill
that I junked. I want the rims but I would sell the
tires. send an email if you are interested.

thanks for the offer. I guess I should have specified that I have 15 inch tires on my drill.

The tire size that is on 1 side is 8.15-15 and 7.60-15 on the other side. I guess someone used it to plant curved fields. hahaha

I have 44 days to plant oats, but at this rate, nothing is going to get planted! I still have 80 acres of corn to get out of the field. moisture in field is 14.7%

John, just find two the same size and put them on
it- a decent case will cost about ten bucks. You
still got a few weeks before any field work, and
more snow coming tonite and tomorrow.....

Yeah, I guess I was getting obsessive compulsive about it... I'm trying to get ready now.

44 days until oats have to be in the ground! I also had to check on the seed drop tubes. $360 to replace them all... Yikes!

I'm in the market for a grain drill. I should have gone up to Rob McGary's sale yesterday and had a look at what he had in a Case IH soybean special.
