Exide Battery

Has anyone had trouble with exide batteries? I put
one in my tractor a month ago and it lasted a
month. I got a replacement and it is now bad. The
other battery that was in it was 14 years old and
it was still working but getting weaker so I
changed. I put the old one back in and tractor
starts right up

They use to be a very good battery. I use only Walmarts best batteries in my cars, garden tractor and Kohler standby generator. Some have lasted over 10 years. Hal

If your buying them at Wal-Mart that is where the problem is. Now days what they carry are the 2nds of most stuff and can in fact be bad from the get go. BTDT and have had more then one battery from them be bad the moment you pick it up

I have at least 20 excide batteries from Rural King. Oldest is 7 years. One time I had a bad one and Rural King replaced it free of charge.

I would check to see if your tractor isn't draining battery.

Tractor is ok . If I take the battery out and charge it leave it sit overnight it doesn't have enough power to run a test light. The other one did the same thing. I thought that maybe it was something in the tractor electrical system that is the reason I tool the battery out. The battery that lasted so long was a Wal Mart brand battery and that is what is going back in it when this dam wind quits blowing the roads shut

I have the same problem with napa batteries.I don't know what brand they are.I can buy batteries cheaper at menards than napa and they seem to last longer.

Actually, Exide makes a good portion of the batteries that are sold. They just slap whosever label they need to on them. It could be that you have gotten into a bad run on them or something, but Exide makes a lot of batteries, for a lot of different companies. Good luck - Bob

just replaced existing exide tractor battery (lasted 4 years) with a new one. Have one in truck and just put in sons car.. cant complain.

I believe he posted that Walmart is the bat. that lasted 14 years
which is 9 years longer than any bat. I've ever had.

Ya one that may have lasted 14 years was not made like they are now days and that is where the big difference is today stuff is made poorly and it is not getting better but worse. Wal-Mart is at least 50% China junk and Chain now owns at least part of Wal-Mart or should I say China Mart

I got a new one sitting on my bench to put in my HD2500 gasser. I'm just wanting for a warm day to put it in.

I hope I have better luck than you had with yours. The original one lasted 7 years. Its just getting a little weak.

I buy batteries from Wally world and get great service from them.
One was in my wives Lincoln for 4 or 5 years. She wrecked the lincoln and I gave the battery to a friend for his 5000 ford tractor. It was half the size of the battery that was in it.
He has been using that wally world battery in his tractor for 3 years now and still working well.

This is kind of like the old story.... the side just came out of my Titan tires.... has anyone else ever experienced this? question.
Umm, yeah.

I avoid Exide batteries at all costs. I've had a lot of them expire well before their time.

Just the same, I'd get a multimeter on your tractor and see if it's charging correctly and I'd also use a current clamp to see if it's drawing when the engine is shut down... or use the ohm meter to see if there's a draw between the battery cables (disconnected).
I do find it kind of odd that you'd have two bad batteries; odd even for Exide.
Make sure it's charging at around 14v if it's a 12v system or 7v on a 6v system...

Again as I have said they are older batteries the new ones like the 5 I have that had 3 year warranties on them form 2010 are ALL bad and zero pro-rating on them so they are at best core batteries at $10 each I'll not buy Wal-mart/China- mart ever again. You buy Walmart you buy China stuff so you want it good for you me I'm a D.A.V. and will do my best to buy from the U.S.A.

I have had 2 different vehicles in the past 2 years hat I had to put 3 new batteries in before I got good ones . Had them both in the shop because I was thinking it had to be the charging system but it took 6 batteries to find 2 good ones. And I'm starting to think the 2 that's in my truck now may have 1 bad one and they were new in July or Aug last year. These were from 3 different stores also. I just don't think they have the quality they used to.
