Fast Hitch, Round 2

Hi all it's Bryce. Alright, so I bought the FH, Hydro control valve, and everything else I need to mount it onto the tractor. I have been looking around and have found two implements. I would like to know which one you guys think is the better buy, and which would be of more "collector" value in the long run:

The guy I bought the FH from said that he has a disc for it. He SAID, it is %100 field ready, they guy has been using it for a little garden for years. $325

I put at ad out on CL, and a guy replied to me and said that his dad used to have a 300U and that he still has the FH sickle mower for it. He said that it is belt drive, 7ft. Will going from a 300U to Super C be a problem? Said that it hasn't moved in 30+ years. $175

Let me know what you guys think. I also know where there is a John Deere A that someone has made a FH for and has a really nice FH 2 bottom plow, and 8 foot FH disc for sale with it. I just need to track him down and ask him if he would sell just the implements! Thanks, Bryce

The mower on the 300U may have to have the points cut down 1/2" in height to fit in your FH unless it already has small points and was being used with shims in the 300U.

If it's a balanced-head mower, it'll be a good piece of equipment to own...those things will cut at any angle up to and including vertical.

Sooo, what do I need to have the guy measure? It is about 1 1/2 hours away, so if I am going there, I am bringing it back! Are the 2 points wider on implements for bigger tractors, or just thicker? Bryce

A SC uses small points, will work on the larger tractors by useing a easily 'made' shim. The Larger point will not work on a SC.But the can be trimmed to fit.The spaceing is the same, only the 'depth' of the point is different. As far as "collectible"All (small) Fast hitch stuff is becomeing more collectable and valuable. As so much has been scrapped, and they havent made 2pt stuff for YEARS,and the riseing popularity of SC tractors/equipment.

Alright, so the spacing between the two points is the same, so the point it's self is a little longer on the bigger stuff? If that is the case, then why would there need to be a shim when putting little on big? I am a little confused!

They are taller, I think the measurement is 2-1/2" on small points and 3" on large point but I only have large points here. The length, thickness and spacing are the same, so if you want to put small points in large point sockets you use a 1/2" thick "shim" that goes in the bottom of the socket. I have seen pictures of these but do not have any myself.

The length is the same. The prong itself is the issue. The length and thickness are the same. The 'big' prong is 1/2" 'deeper'.A 1/2"x1" by 12" length of flat iron on the bottom of the socket is required to use the 'small' prong on the larger (300up) tractors.

Ahhhh, I see. So you would have to slide that shim under it to force the prong up high enough so that it would lock in the FH. Right? So if it is the bigger one, it won't work on my Super C unless I grind/cut it down right?

I grew up with the 300u and the fast hitch mower that came with it had the the small prongs ; we always had the to use the spacers. Your problems will be, the offset of the mower to be even with the right rear tire, and more importantly, the 300 mower had a top link set up on it. That is how it raised the the cutter bar. The top link was an offset design that swiveled vertically on a stub that was welded on the left prong arm near where it curved down. The lower end attached to an arm that swiveled horizontally and attached to a rod that raised the the cutter bar.
When dad bought a 340u, he had the mower modified to fit it. The dealer removed the top link and attached a chain that you had to hook under the lift cylinder with a pin. The movement of the cylinder against he chain raises the cutter bar. You also have to have a chain that holds the mower pto level while the hyd. cyl. retracts : this is what gives the cutter bar it's floating action. On the 300u this is done by chain on the left lift side just ahead of the receiver; I don't know how it would work on your C for sure.
