Here is my wood splitter I built in 1985.I have had several engines on it thru the years now I run it off the tractor front pump.the splitting wedge was made from a cutting edge from a cat end loader.I can. Unbolt it and put it out on the end and split 8 ft locust fence post it is 12 ft long .I have run more than 5000 post threw it in years past.

That really threw me when you said you put a squared off piece of wood in there to extend out the split. I couldn't see why it wouldn't split the block of wood! THEN......I looked closer at your splitter! Now it makes sense. My "wedge" on my splitter is on the cylinder. I can only split lengths up to 25" with mine. I'd sure like to be able to split longer pieces as my stove will accomodate up to 32". 'Sure do like your set-up.....nice.

I was worried that we were going to see another hay baler converted into a wood splitter.
