Google OMAHA.com for today's Omaha World Herald to see a series of photos depicting the severity of the blizzard. (Feb 23's paper)

I saw that.

Also, I remember that. I was in high school at the time.

As I recall, they were dropping hay to stranded cattle with cargo airplanes. One unfortunate farmer who was standing by his cattle got hit with a hay bale and was killed.

I restored a Weasel like the ones on Main Street O'Neil. They were made by Studebaker and had a Studebaker engine. Most of them were used in Alaska and Norway. If you wanted heat you opened a vent that let engine heat blow into the cockpit. It was very quiet, all you hear is the clinking of the track. One weakness they had was they could climb a steep enough slope to make the engine oil go to the back of the oil pan and cause oil starvation. A spun rod bearing was the result. The one I restored had a spun bearing. Jim

I was 5 years old. Big Springs,Nebr. we had steps in the snow getting out of the house. Walked straight into the loaf of the barn and climbed down to milk. Or a mean Dad did. Dad had a new IHC pull type combine delivered just be for the storm. I thought it was a 121, but maybe a 122.

My wife's dad grew up on a farm on HWY 77 north of Beatrice. He said they had like 18-20 people for 3-4 days wonder up to the house and stay. They ran out of all of the food his mom had put up canning for the winter. Said it got tense toward the last day.

I found this neat little tid-bit of weather history while researching the Edmund Fitzgerald ship wreck. Strange that these 5 storms were all within the same 3 day period. Weather and its extremes have always interested me. Nice post, I hope the story is still being told through out the area. First hand experiances of this kind will someday no longer be told.
This is my first time trying to post a link I hope it works but not holding my breath.
