i had a friends son stop by yesterday, now this guy doesnt know much about tractors, but has managed to come up with a decent old farmall H to pull a drag harow around his roping arena, he came to ask me if i knew where there was a good forn 9n, as he wanted to trade up to more power and a 3 point lift, i took some time to try to explain that while the H doesnt have a 3 point, they can be put on it, there not cheap, but going from a H to a N is not going up in power,

I am not a big fan of IH "H" tractors but I would take one over a Ford 9N unless I was plowing. Those old IH motors do purr like a kitten.

Was at farm and fleet got some lead additive for tractor kid was full of questions didnt know they put lead in gas must be gettin old

Yeah, I'm with Lund on that. A utility style tractor is designed for indoor work like that. If he likes the H he should consider a 300 or 350 utility. Get the low clearance, about the same power, and none of that N Ford, never gonna start when you need it nonsense.

I vote 9N over H but I'm not a fan of the 9N. At least get a 8N but really your best bet would be the NAA or 600/601 series. Those Ns w/o live lift are just inconvenient. The 600/601 series tractors aren't as collectable as the Ns but are more useful. Might even get one cheaper and if I'm not mistaken they do have a tad more power than the H.

Get him on tractor data and show him the Nebraska tests results for the 9N and the H. They are very close on power with the H having a slight edge. Then show him the NAA and the 600 series. For what he's using it for the Ford would be a much more versatile tractor without dumping a bunch of money into an add on 3 point.

I've got a citidiot here, nice guy, big money, who's willing to learn. He had the notion that just because a tractor is bigger physically that it was more HP. He was amazed that some smaller tractors had more HP than some of the larger ones. Like an H compared to a 600 series Ford or a 300 utility. He bought an IH 544 utility last fall for his food plots.

i talked to him awhile and for what he wants it for and the size of harrow he's going to use [ 3 point attachment] he really needs at least a 800 series or step up to the thousand series if he wants a ford, not much more than a good n, and twice the power and live everything , also hundred series ih utility would be nice, he really needs something that weighs more than a n does
