Where do those darned things live in the winter?
I live in central KY. Just got to the 50's today.

Maybe I am looking forward to warm weather a bit less now.

Saw some 3 weeks ago. It had been down to 4 degrees a couple of weeks before that. Had moths around the porch light a few nights ago.

I was thinking about that this morning. The one good thing about an Iowa winter is no mosquitos, no gnats, no chiggers, no picnic bugs, no flies, no wasps to come out of the next cement block you pick up and none of those little microscopic bugs that bite like crazy. Jim

We've had plenty of freezing temps this winter and here lately but a few days ago it warmed up to mid 60's the day after. That was the day after a spell of single digit lows and highs around upper 20's too. They say freezing temps kills the bugs, maybe some or most of them but not all.

I don't know, but at this point, give me the bugs and take the snow.

Read somewhere in the news that the entomologists (people who study insects) are saying that due to the cold we have had over most parts of the U.S. this winter, the summer insect populations should be much lower than the last few years.

Makes a lot of sense. I remember several years ago (actually about 16 years), we had a VERY wet spring, lots of flooding. Seems all the water got into the rabbit holes locally and decimated their population. I remember not seeing many rabbits for several years following.
