Replace OLD tractor tires

I have a 1982 Massey Ferguson 283. the rear tires have finaly dry rotted to the point they are oozing air/water. I live in the south, so it's just water. These are Goodyear tires and the size is 18.4/15-30. I have looked on-line and I can't find this particular size anywhere. Are these tires so old that the sizing method has changed to a different method? Any information on where to look for new/used replacements would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Logan,
There is a tractor wrecking yard in Downing Wi,should be one close by to you for used tires. We bought one used tire from Downing, it was like new, $250.00. No cuts, about 90% tread,no patches either.Just a slightly different tread pattern than our other one,we broke them both down and put new tubes in them, sandblasted and painted the rims, made a class A job out of it.Link below is to Nebraska tire, they have blems and new tires and should know about the size you are looking for.Hope it helps.

Click on "Miller Tire" in Ohio. Bet they have the size you need, but sit down when you call because they will be pricey. They have a lot of different tire treads also.
LA in WI

82 doesn't count as old as far as odd sizing for tires.

Those should be available new from a good dealer.

Not a common size though. Equipment I personally know use this size are LA Case and M Gleaner combines. I think it was available throughout the M series but around here the later machines used a wider tire. I think there was a Deere utility tractor that used that size also. Thusly used may be a bit of a trick just a tip to help you with a search in a salvage yard.

You are correct, that size designation is old and out of date. The new designation is just 18.4 -30. You can also go to a radial and then the size is something like 460R85-30. Google Nebraska Tire, they have blems for decent prices.

18.4-30 is still a standard size here and easy to find—should be even easier in the US

I had new ones put on LA Case last year, cost about $750 each—again should be cheaper in the US

neighbor works at local tire store came in yesterday and said they had 18.4*34 for 500.00 and 18.4*38 for 550.00 don't know it they had any 30's but can check if it would help anyone. Speedway brand 8 ply seems fairly reasonable.

Checked with old supplier, 18.4X30 Sampson 564.00 each 184.30 Titan $703.14, 18.4X30 Firestone SAT 2 765.93 each. They have plenty. BKT 8 PLY 757.54 each several in stock

Your tires were bought just they were changing the way the measure tires the 18.4/15/30 means its the new size of 18.4/30 to replace the 15/30 tires. The old size measured the rim width the new one measured the tire width. Having both sizes on the same tire is not very common they only did that for a year or so. Hope this helps I have a set of 14/30 tires in good condition they are not as wide as yours they are off a Case LA the La used both 14 and 15 in. Tires.

Along with Gleaner combines, some AC tractors had that size.....I believe the Model 180. Check salvage yards.

My 630 has 16.9 X 30 Goodrich and my 730 has 18.4 X 30 Michelin. I have a set of 16 X 30 I think, rims for my 730 Standard.

They were offered as an option on the AC 185 and are quite common. I bought this complete set off of a salvaged 185 for $500 about 6 years ago...they really work well on the 175.

Thanks for all the information guys. I knew if anybody would know y'all would. I happened by the Massey Ferguson dealer here after I posted this and the guy behind the parts counter was super helpful. It's a family owned/operated business (Audilet's Tractor's in Beaumont, Tx) and he called his out of state supplier who needed time to get a quote together and a local business who he said used to be the Ag Firestone dealer. Long story short, the local guy has a set of Firestones for $575 and has service truck to come put them on. Since these are water filled and I have had 7 spinal surgeries I'm going to pay the little extra for the service call. Thanks again guys, y'all are the best!!!
