How are your bees doing?

Drove the Ford 860 (somewhat tractor related) thru the snow down to the yard to shovel after Mondays snow storm....next day we hit 42 degrees and the bees were out on cleansing flights all day.....last nite we got pounded with more snow

Supposed to be another week of sub-zero temps coming up.

This is my first winter keeping bees....some bee keepers in my area have lost all their colonies already....thankfully, they have full time jobs!

Our sixth year of beekeeping for our vegetable farm. Wednesday was in the high 40"s and checked the hives. We had 30 going into winter. 12 have survived. We are pulling honey frames from the dead outs and putting on top of the surviving hives. We still have 2 1/2 months till they have good foraging. With the winter that we have had in WC Ohio, I had feared that this would happen. They will need extra feed to make it till then.

I don't know a thing about them myself. I talked to a bee keeping friend this morning though. He said he lost one of his hives this winter here in Mid Mi. He said he ordered a couple of new ones for this coming spring.
