We're we live we can't get Time Warner, so we have dial up, between that and our junk dell compuker it's not even worth using. Since my wife and them me got the iPhones that's all we use for Internet service. Well my wife changed jobs last month, and now has the abality to work from home, so she is looking into high speed Internet. I have heard Hughes net isent very good, I know my Brother had problems with reception with Verizon on his phone, so I was wondering if there's any other Internet services out there that would work in New York, it's not real rural, but I don't want to get something that dosent work well here.. Thanks

Hey Jay,
We have the Excede high speed- it is around $60/ month.
It is a huge improvement oveer the old wildblue and old hughesnet.
I can stream videos,music,etc...
there are usage limits but wehaveonly gone over 1x in two years.
I like it.
It is no TW but it is our only option.
You are welcome to stop over anytime to try it out...shoot me an email or a message here...
You can get an idea of wha the speed is like... I am around this week and starting at the end of next week...I will be home on paternity leave....so, if you wanna check it out, let me know.
I hope winter is over.

I use Clearwire. If it serves your area, it seems fine, we have had no down time in 3 years. We use a wireless Modem, connecting the desktop with ethernet cable, and all the mobile devices wireless. Modest cost. Jim

I do not know what it takes to do this, but friend of mine runs his PC through his Sprint phone. He reports excellent service and fast speeds, including email, drawings, video etc.

Good luck
Rich

Thanks Steve, ill take your word for it! Lol, I've been pretty tied up with my daughter. I hope all is going well with your son now too.

if you go thru a cellphone; get a cellphone extender for your house. that's what we do. Wilson is the brand we use. they have different types for different uses!

Jay,
We are seriously considering dumping TW Roadrunner. We are on the end of the line and have a used auto dealer next door and they consume all the band width, Can't do much of anything until they turn off their lights at night. We are looking at Dish-net. We dumped TW TV service 2 years back, due to their cost. We have had no signal outages with Dish network, and that is why we may change to Dish-net also.
They are offering a" bundle" deal currently.
You would probably like dish network for TV, because RFDTV has all kinds of Horsey stuff on it.
As I said before, I am far from being a Horsey person, and disapointed with RFDTV. Used to be lots of tractor stuff, but the enficis has shifted, to hay burners.
Loren, the Acg.

Loren I have Direct tv, yes I watch classic tractor fever on RFDTV, I don't care about that aspect of horses they have on rfd, I watch Channel 602, tvg for horse racing. I can't switch to dish tv.

Thanks, we"ll look into that too. My brother jail broke his iPhone a couple years ago, that allowed him to teather the phone to his laptop for internet, one day he got an email from AT&T that he had to stop doing that, I couldent believe they knew what he was doing! So he stoped doing it. He got his iPhone back when the offered unlimited data, mine had 2gb oh data, I've never gone over luckley.

The little man is good...thanks for asking.
We got home a few days before x-mas...10 weeks @ albany med...he is good
born at 2.25 lbs, now he is up to 10.5...doing great...12 weeks early is tough though.

About the internet...
old Hughes/Wildblue, we were paying like $85 and it was awful.
This new service...we can stream movies/video, web pages with pictures load...almost like Broadband...
there is a quarter-second delay when you first start something...then it fires up quick...so...if you are a "gamer" then it is not for you...i am not a "gamer"...so it doesnt matter to me...
New service...like I said...$59, hasnt gone up...quality has been the same since day 1...i think when i move the modem (we finished the front of the house) it will cut 30 feet of cable after the satellite which will speed us up even a little more...customer service has been good...we had one modem go bad and it was replaced quickly...
neighbor has new hughesnet gen 4....basically the same...they seem happy...
we have directv too.....i know there is some bundling offers out there...
this "excede" that we have is though wildblue...

hope your daughter is doing ok...

also, if you know anyone getting rid of a 1 ton dump...older, functional and cheap...let me know...i am casually looking...

got some big pigs @ highcliff now I see...
also a redish tractor I saw driving by...looked to be a hundred series Alis Chalmers or a Belarus...just caught a glimpse of the front end...

We live in the country and can't get high speed internet, people in town get it from the cable tv co. We have Hughes net and are happy with it.

I have a US Cellular phone they supplied me with a little modem?? that hooks to my computer great service 99.9 % of the time

Do you have the new hughesnet gen. 4?
If you don't, consider an upgrade when we upgraded we got faster service for less $$...that is a win-win

I got a USB device that uses Virgin Mobile cell phone, from Radio Shack a year or so ago. Haven't used it because I went with SKY BEAM. Think they wanted somewhere around fifty dollars a month for unlimited use. You can look up Virgin Mobile on the net and find the details.

We are in a very remote area no other choice. Have Excede and wife and I stay on the net a lot. Pretty good speed and up 98% of the time. About $55 bucks a month and works great.

That's great news on your son, yes my daughter is also doing great. No, I'm not a gamer, my wife will be using high speed for work, I've got my phone, so I prolly won't use it much. Ill keep an eye out for a truck, but it's hard to find them cheap. Yes There was an allis at highcliff last summer, I was gonna drive by there on Monday, but dident have time to.,I dident know they got pigs now too! Lol

Our place in New York is in Otsego County - half-way between Cobleskill and Oneonta and Cooperstown.
No cable or DSL available. We had dial up for years. Then changed to Hughesnet. Then changed to Millenicom wireless and love it. Millenicom also comes with us everywhere we go. We've used it in the middle of the Adirondacks (Hamilton County), Tug Hill Plateau (Jefferson County( and right now in northern Michigan (Alpena and Presque Isle Counties). Works on 4GLTE in most places and in others with weaker signals - it reverts to 3G. Still plenty fast. MUCH faster then Hugesnet ever was. Millenicom is what Verizon uses for wireless but the deals are better if you buy direct from Millenicom. Just make sure you get the plan with Verizon towers and NOT the place with Virgin Mobil towers. We pay $70 a month for 10 gigs of access. We've had it for two years and never come close to using that much with four computers and users in the house. But we do NOT download movies.

(quoted from post at 02:23:08 02/20/14) We live in the country and can't get high speed internet, people in town get it from the cable tv co. We have Hughes net and are happy with it.

Same here. The standard Hughes service we have is about $63 a month (that includes taxes) and is much, much better than dial up. We bought the dish and modem so no monthly rent on that. It's been pretty good, sometime atmospheric conditions cause problems but overall it's been pretty reliable. All in all, it's better than nothing.

If you have good Verizon cell signal you can get internet from them. I have their MIFI unit (it's 3 years old and has been replaced by another model) and it does pretty good. I have straight talk cell phone (uses Verizon towers here) and signal is spotty enough in the house that I can sit down, turn my head, walk into another room, the call will be connected but audio won't get through.

I have the 3 gig plan, and should step up to a higher one. If I watch any amount of video online, I will go over, and sometimes it doesn't take long to do it.
