Driving tractor

Just got to thinking is it legal to drive a tractor on the roads
with out a drivers license. Tractors aren't licensed no
insurance,

Legal in Washington to drive tractor on public roads without a license.

Old guy who had more DUI's than he could remember started driving his Ferguson 30 to the tavern in a small town. About the second instance of that, and the town cop stopped him. No license, no problem- but drunk is drunk, and he spent the next 6 months in the slammer. He thought he was somehow immune from drunk driving laws, too- but not the case.

He was a good old guy, just had a drinking problem. I was working in the jail at that time (1973)- the jail staff knew him well, and he was made a "Trusty" immediately. Lived in an unlocked cell, had the run of the place, we'd send him out to the store for snacks and smokes. He'd help out with cleaning, serving meals, helped in the kitchen, etc.

We were talking one night, and I asked why he didn't "escape"- he said, are you kiddin'? I've got no place to go except home, I'm old and slow, got no wheels, and every cop in the county knows me. And to top it off, they'd send me off to the pen, where I REALLY don't want to go. No, I've got it pretty good here, and I'll serve my time. And probably be back.

RIP, Ernie.

In Iowa you can't drive anything that is motorized on public roads if you have lost your drivers license due to dwi.that includes farm tractors and lawn mowers.

I knew of a few folks that lost their license (DUI) but continued to drive farm tractors, sometimes to the bar, sometimes with a trailer behind a JD B so he could continue to work as a carpenter. Also found out you can still get a DUI on a tractor, Horse or Horse & Buggy, Horse and sleigh, snowmobile or boat. This was in Michigan and it was pretty much you could drive without the license but were still able to collect the DUI with your alternative transportation if you were stupid.

its leagle here in nm, and plenty of drunks do, years ago there was one old man who had had his licence taken away permenently, he had a old hand start john deere b too and everyday he would take that old b and putt down to the area bar get his case of beer and putt back home, nothing they could do about him, but while i never heard of him hitting anybody its my understanding that if you do hit something your wide open to a lawsuite for damages, a guy i knew also lost his licence for i think it was 5 years ,he drove a to 30 ferguson tractor for the whole time, even made a home made cab on it for winter operation

In SC those withpout a license can drive a moped. If they drive it drunk they are in trouble. Mopeds are supposed to go only 35 mph. Word is years ago some politicians got into importing mopeds and got the law passed allowing them so they could sell more. Illegal to operate them on the interstate, along with farm machinery. They are somewhat of a nuisance to other motorists and are often refferred to as "likersickles" since some people who have lost their licenses for DUI have them. To be fair, some people have them because they can't afford other transportation.

I knew a fellow who had a DUI, the police stopped him for driving his Farmall down the road in NJ. I know another fellow whose wife would hide his truck keys on Friday nights so he could not go to the bar. One night he drove the lawn tractor to the bar!

A wife that vould hid the truck keys from her husband is aboot as cruel as they come.

The cruelty of her ranks up next to the cruel trick of a postal letter carrier, he hid peoples welfare checks in a pair of vork boots, they almost starved.

Legal here in MI. Have a neighbor (alky" nicest ole guy you can meet but made some bad decisions early on and pays for it every day. He has an old Farmall "H" that he built a wooden cab on and hauls his tools around to various small repair jobs that neighbors etc hire him to do. Used to ride bike all the time but he has gotten quite old and now that he has some work to do needs a trailer. The law knows him well and I'll assure you he doesn't do any drinking in that H because that IS against the law.

In Pennsylvania if you drive a tractor on a road for anything other than farming, you must have a license on the tractor.

Found out last week a friend from years ago, lives nearby now, who is paraplegic from falling from a ladder at his house, got a dui on his scooter. Had been golfing, went to local brewhouse with buddies and had three beers. Got his scooter hung up on a concrete curb and first guy by is town cop. Friend barely failed the breathe in the tube test, so cop wrote him up. Also told him he couldn"t use his scooter or another mobile device anywhere in town. He was judge and jury. Friend went to Civil Rights Board in St. Cloud, cop got read the riot act, and friend is back on his scooter. Charge dismissed!

I never heard of that Rollie.. I even know a family that has a fleet of tractors that cut along the roads for the state. I'm pretty sure they don't have plates on them Ill have to ask them. I had a uncle get pulled over for not having a SMV triangle on. Cop just gave him a warning..

Iowa law once read that if was illegal to operate a motor vehicle while intoxicated, that included mowing your lawn! That was amended to read upon a public highway.
