Down on the ford board there is mention of
free cows. back a couple years ago i stopped
and told a guy his goat was out .he said that
was normal seems that somebody had a free
goat first come gets it and then he told me i
should have seen it coming after all she was
tied to a cement block while still in the
pasture.
Anybody run accross those sweet deals.
Mine was at an auction sweet little jersey cow
came in the ring she was 3/4 .the auctioneer
started to sell no bids all of a sudden i heard
my name mentioned by the clerk i said what
the auctioneer said sold!!!! half pint turned out
to be a nice cow her calves were really great
milkers so for 300 i did ok

Back during the drought of '11 a South Texas rancher was hauling cows to the auction. He had a flat on his trailer so he uncoupled it, jacked it up, pulled the flat tire off and went to town to have it repaired. When he got back 3 more cows were tied to his trailer. Well anyway, I'm sure it happened somewhere sometime.

on the local news yesterday, a fella in athens, al. was not feeding his cattle. of about 50 head which are in bad shape, 12 had already died. cannot understand having cattle and not realizing the primary reason for them: eat, reproduce, gain weight, eat, sell equal dollars.

A BUNCH of people in the area have been calling who ever they can as a guy up the road a spell had 4 horses that he didn't feed and water this winter. Last I knew he STILL had 2. The other 2 died. NOBODY willing to do anything about it.

Years ago when we started out with goats we had a bunch of the pygmy goats given to use. As time went by those went to other homes and we got the bigger breeds of goats and still have goat. This summer we picked up a pony and a mini horse for free other then going to get them. We then gave pony to another family who had your children

Over the years, that"s been a cyclical story here as well. Usually involving bull calves at the sales barn, when the price for a newborn is about $5. Just like, "In x State, if you don"t like the weather, just wait a few minutes".

I do know for a fact that after the local horse slaughter house had to close, the guys who went to the local livestock auction had to start locking up their stock trailers during the sale, because on several occasions, when they came out after the sale, there would be a couple of old horses in them.

Banning horse slaughter was one of the more idiotic cave-ins to the tree huggers we have had- especially since almost all the horse owners associations are in favor of horse slaughter, not against it.

The last emergency injunction on resuming horse slaughter was lifted, so hopefully....
Back east the local sale barn owner kicked a couple horse people out one day. They had about 2 trailer loads of junk that they felt was worth top dollar, and the cattle buyers were getting ready to head to the next sale. They were wanting $400+ out of saddles that had the leather completely destroyed.

Yes the banned horse slaughter so now the load them on trucks and ship them to mexico so which is more humane a quick death or a long trip with little food and water or care

Back in 1998 or '99 when hog prices tanked, I, or anyone else could have had thousands of feeder pigs for the price of the gov't. tags. Local hog markets and auctions couldn't give them away and started charging farmers when they brought them in. Eventually most stopped bringing them in, as they were broke already. A $20 bill would have bought a fed-out 250# fat hog at that time.

Prices recovered, but by the time the feeder pigs would have been fed out, they still would have been loss-leaders.

Heard a story that happened many years ago involving my uncle and a neighbor.

The neighbor was a bad drunk, and my uncle had to drive through the guys place to get to town. One day my uncle stopped and mentioned that the neighbor had a sick calf out with the cows and calves. Uncle was told "He won't live. Take him if you want". My Uncle took the calf home and doctored it back to health.

A few months later my uncle stopped on his way home from town and gave the neighbor a bottle of whiskey. Neighbor had forgot the calf deal and asked what the gift was for. When my uncle explained it was in payment for the calf, the neighbor thought about it a minute, then said "Well hell, there's a whole bunch more of the little buggers out there if ya want 'em".

AD- YUP, that was when I had just had my first litters of hogs. Back then, I was breaking even at $15.00 cwt. People were bringing Pickup trucks of them trying to give them away.
