OT the Eagle has landed!

Found this one late in the afternoon! Open water, Canadian Geese, I think there will be more soon! It is supposed to be warm most of the week-they LOVE the open water just iced over enough to stand on!

I watch them dip fish out below the dam. The river
below the power house stays open in sub weather.

Fantastic!

If I've asked before, then I've forgotten...
What kind of camera do you use, Greg?

How many X's can you zoom-in? I assume one cannot get anywhere close to an Eagle - I have tried to sneak up on one a couple times and they always take off long before I get anywhere near them.

sweet, I posted a pic of an eagle that I took a couple of weeks ago. I was on the tractor feeding and drove within 50 feet of it. Could not believe I got that close.

Very nice! I watched 10 of them sitting on
the edge of the ice on the river one day.
Kind of neat to see that many at one time.

Kerry 50,

I tried to sneak up on one eating a rabbit out back of our corn crib.

I was going around the back of the granary - but I scared a rabbit out of hiding and he ran toward the eagle. Eagle just lifted-off instantly, clutching the dead rabbit he'd been eating, like it was nothing... and flew away.

That was the closest I've ever been to a wild one.

This one today was 40' up and I was 40' back. Currently I am using a point and shoot-no interchangeable lens! It's the Canon XS50HS! I have a DSLR, but could not afford a longer lens-it's a Pentax so not readily available! Plus I found I would have the wrong lens on for the rapidly changing nature stuff I shoot! This one has a very wide angle- then goes 50X optical and 200Xs digital zoom!

I know a man that works with injured birds. He usually has mainly hawks and owls but he got a call one time about an injured eagle. He said it was sitting out in a field on a dike. He said it was about the scariest thing he had ever done to walk up to this thing and put a burlap sack over it and then pick it up. He had it for about 6 weeks before they figured it was healthy enough to put back out on its own.
They sure are pretty birds though, awesome to watch.

A couple of teen whatever shot one and was turned
in. They are in deep dodo. South and west of Cedar
Rapids, Ia. Maybe close to JD Seller I don't know.

Omaha, Pentax dslr is a k mount lens. Check pawn shops. The lenses from my K1000 that i bought new in '77 fit. Just have to focus. The later slr's were auto focus K mounts and work too. Usually about $15 for a lens. Nice pics by the way.

Yes I know! I have a 320 with a doubler-not enough for what I try to do! Getting a massive lens with that mount is not worth it! I found a 500, but it was $800! I want a 1600 or so, for that I need to switch brands!
