Remington Arms opening a new plant in Huntsville, Al. 2000 jobs at average pay of $40k. did not state whether they were making arms or ammo.

I'm sure the anti-gun politics in Ilion,New York had a lot to do with the move, hope more of the manufactures move out of the New England states also to a more pro-gun state.

If I had an ammo factory it would make nothing but .22 long rifle for a long while. What's this one gonna make?

Good deal ! I hope all the gun and ammo manufactures move south.
And thin ( The south will rise again !!! )

Benelli (sp) announced a New Plant in Tennessee about a month ago, 600 jobs I think making arms.

from al.com: "A Military Times GearScout report Friday said Remington will open a 500,000-square-foot factory that will be used for manufacturing, new product development and training for its commercial, military and law enforcement divisions." The army has a large arms depot there. It is called the Redstone Arsenal and is adjacent to the rocket development facility.

Remington Arms has been here in the Mokawk valley of NY., since the 1800s. Our Jack Arzed Govenor ramed an antigun law through two years ago and now we are paying for his stupidity.

The anti gun politics is not in Ilion but all down state NYC area. The Gov's office had the gall to say today that no jobs in Ilion will be lost. Well 2000 won't be added will they?

Sad day for NY but glad to see the works are staying stateside. Wish we could get them in FLA. We have dropped sales taxes on machinery, equipment etc. to entice business to FLA.

Many complain about our Gov. but he has righted the ship and doing as he said. We are 2nd lowest in unemployment down from being 2nd highest.

It was Kahr? I believe, who also just pulled up stakes and is leaving. haven't heard anything about Kimber and Henry yet, but you have to believe they are weighing their options. I would wager that nothing would make the current crop in Albany happier than to have every gun and ammo manufacturer leave NY.

Ruger and Beretta are getting out of Conn. too.

If I owned an Arms Company I would not sell any gun to Law Enforcement that I could not sell to law abiding citizens in that state sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander

Customer of mines brother lives in New York. Will soon be moving with Remington. Said with all the taxes, high prices and stupid regulations. He looks for New York State to be a ghost state in the near future.

I"ve lived in NY all my life and am trying to plan my exit strategy, have land, lots of old iron ect to get rid of, just might be an auction some day. Sure can"t afford to retire here. Next where to go, I want to go west.

I went through the same thing SMS, right after the SAFE Act passed. Couldn't find anything I could afford that I really wanted where I wanted to be. Then I got thinking about it and if I really wanted to run from a fight. Instead of running, I ran for office in hopes of changing things from the bottom up.

Just sayin'.

I find most of the the responses(below) to the Remington expansion fascinating stuff. Remington has been searching for quite some time for a new facility and have looked at locations in 24 states. It would appear that the search commenced before the SAFE act in NY was passes...but that little tidbit doesn't quite fit the narrative, so it's discarded. The eastern part of upstate NY is growing quite well theses days..and will continue to do so with or without new Remington jobs... nanotechnology research for one and Global Foundries (pouring billions into new construction. High technology companies moving out of southern states like Texas and into the Capital Region of New York State. WHY? you ask... it's not about guns or non-union shops.. it's about where the smarts are and to paraphrase one of the executives who moved from Texas.. "it's about schools for my children and quality of life issues"... So guns and perceived 2nd amendment rights may be important to some people, but thankfully, in the final analysis, reason does prevail in a collective sense. I wouldn't be surprised to find in a few years, Remington performing just the machining for their firearms in Ilion NY ... and doing assembly, warehousing, distribution in the south with less costly/sophisticated labor.

Yep and the nanotech plant in albany is a great job, quality of life is so much better, you can get $20/hr if you want to work from 7pm-7am, Saturday, Sunday, M-Tuesday, you come home Wed A.M.lose that day for rest or have to bear through it, till that evening to switch over, so thursday and friday are normal hours then it starts again Saturday again, you do get every other saturday off. You will work on most holidays. Not only have they changed things, they come up with these non-human hours, much of the managment is of foreign dissent, lots of sleepers telling worker bees what to do, know all about it.

The governor is a tyrant, he does not represent hundreds of thousands of people in this state, and to have a long standing manufacturer make this announcement, as eloquently as can be done, holding harmless the governor and his safe act, does not matter, its a direct result of it. We have lost great business's before such as Gardenway, another large manufacturer, so many others, and it sure looks like none of that will ever come back as well as humane work hours, you know in the day time when the sun is up.

I think you're full of it. Wall St is doing fine, certain urban areas are doing fine and that's it. The statewide average UE rate runs close to 7.2% with many areas over 9%. And thats the U3 number. The U6 is over 12%. Huge numbers of NYS residents are on Food Stamps or welfare/disability.

Your post is a classic example of elitist propaganda. "The south is filled with unsophisticated idiots living in trailers." Why not just say that? Ignore the fact NY is also filled with unsophisticated people living in trailers! I guess that doesn't fit your narrative.
