OT--Air Compressor

One tool that I use EVERY DAY is my air compressor. I think every home should have one!
Anyway, I bought an upright Kobalt 5HP 30 gal. cast iron compressor and it was set up in a space where draining was a problem.
Well, I decided to drain the accumulated moisture and expected it to have a gallon or so of water because it had not been drained in over FOUR YEARS.
I usually take exceptional care of my tools but just couldn't drain it at the time I thought of it.
Well--There was less then 1/2 cup of water in the tank!
I drained it down from 150# to about 30#.
This is hard for me to believe because all my other compressors would have had a gallon or more water.
Am I just lucky or have others experienced this?

No, it's in my basement garage, not heated but dehumidifier is run in summer. Average temperature in winter is 60 degrees.

I found the same thing in my IR 5HP compressor, drained it after a year and got about a quart out. It is in a heated and semi AC space.

I probably drain a half cup of water out of my compressor every day, more in damp weather.

I did some work for a man one time that had a small smudge pot compressor and at the end of every single day he drained it empty. After a week of this I had to ask him why he let the air out of the compressor every day and he said the directions said to drain the compressor daily. When I explained what the directions meant he probably drained two gallons of water out of it.

(quoted from post at 01:28:34 02/17/14) In four years mine would have been half full.Every place I have worked we shut it off and drained every nite.
That's my experience also. I'm not complaining, just surprised! I am sure it will have more this summer when I spray stain my new deck.
