The Waltons

Any fans out there of the 1970s series, "The Waltons"? Just read today that Ralph Waite, the actor who played the part of John Walton, died. That was a good show and is still available in daytime re-runs.

My will feel bad when she hears this. She watched it when it was on every week and watchs all the reruns now ( she knows them by heart).

I think your forgetting that two little old church ladies on that show were avid moonshiners. They just called it the recipe. :) I do know what you mean however.

Been watching it every day lately. On twice a day. So much more innocent than what's on today, yet still a very interesting show that sucks you in and keeps you there for the entire hour.

I HATED The Waltons. Almost as bad as Little House on the Prairie. But I sure did like Mary Ellen when she grew up.

It's funny, Ralph Waite did a lot of movies where he played the bad guy. But he'll always be remembered for the good guy roles he played. RIP Ralph.

OK show but its pure fantasy I'm well acquainted with the area and the people and they were nothing like how its all portrayed on TV.Its on par with some of these reality shows.Like my dad used to say if the TV show really portrayed how it really was most people wouldn't be able to watch it.

I watch it sometimes. It's better than the junk
that's out there now. I think the Walton's were
pretty well off compared to most of the area folks
during the depression.

What makes you think that? First off their name wasn't Walton it was Hamner and weren't nearly as well off as the show portrays. For instance the father didn't have a sawmill he peddled cut up slabs from a local mill.

Artistic licensing. Years back was a movie called "Rudy". It was about some small football player at ND that never got into a game his entire time. He did nothing but ride the pine and get used for a tackling dummy during practice. Anyway, as the movie went, during the very last game as seniors, supposedly the entire team, or all of the seniors walked into Coach Devine's office, laid their jerseys on his desk and said, "If Rudy doesn't play, we don't either". I personally talked to Devine after the movie came out when he was the athletic director at Arizona State, and he made it very clear that had ANY player walked into his office and given him such an ultimatum, he would have kept the jersey and they never would have ever played a game again. I tracked down Rudy, whom wrote the movie and told him what Devine had said, along with some other disputes from the movie, and Ruetiger told me, "Artistic Licensing" allowed for him to make "adjustments".

Back in the day, I was one of NDs biggest fans on the gridiron. These days, I'm the biggest fan of the team that plays them, however, "Rudy" is still banned in my home and always will be. I don't like liars.

When we stopped at the museum in 2012, we were told the he worked at the soapstone mine and processing plant just down the road and he did a little cabinet work in the shop behind the house. If you are south of Charlottesville on 29, it is worth going to see. Then drive the little road back down to 29 through Rockfish. Great scenery.

I grew up in a rural area about that time. If John-Boy had been in my family, we would have made him the housemaid because each one of my sisters would have whupped his butt on a routine basis. (They used to participate in tackle football with us and one of them gave me my first broken bone with a vicious tackle! (She shoulda been flagged for unnecessary roughness.)

Am watching it as I am reading this. Sad to hear of his passing. My
daughters 3 and 5 like this show too. We don't let them watch
much for "current" shows, but Little House and Waltons are fine for
them.

"OK show but its pure fantasy"

Isn't most TV? Including the news?
I stopped watching TV 10 years ago or so.
I see an occasional show at other people's houses etc, but
otherwise if I want to see something I look it up on the internet.
If it's on the internet it [i:f2aaecf8d2][b:f2aaecf8d2]HAS[/b:f2aaecf8d2][/i:f2aaecf8d2] to be true! LOL
