Anybody with a CDL taking blood pressure pills? Here's the deal. Just got my DOT physical. Pressure was 140/89. Got a 1 year card. Have to get it down or next year will get a one time 3 month card. Just spent the morning searching the web for how the pills will effect the CDL. No real answer. Is taking the pill a big deal or not?

What kind of pressure do they want ?

Last news I heard on TV the heart assoc. or somebody said to try and shoot for 150 top number as the new realistic target.

Heart attacks are almost preventable, but some people need maintenance drugs that is just a fact-of-life.

Blood pressure medication will not affect a CDL.

I wear an SCBA for work and I get monitored when I come off it. I have good cholesterol, I had a CT scan which showed 0% plaque and I take a mild bp medicine. Many, many people do. it's not a big deal. Get a physical every year, not just for DOT, get your cholesterol in checked (including the good cholesterol) and if your over 40 get your oil checked.... ahem, ahem.

As long as you can keep your pressure 140/90 or lower you are ok. Any thing over 140/90 you need to work on getting it down. BIL had some trouble with blood pressure and got it down with pills and diet.

I take a BP pill daily and have a CDL. So long as your BP is in an acceptable range when you go to get your physical you'll be good for one year.

If you have high BP or are being treated for it you'll have to go back every year rather than every two.

They can make you come back every three to six months if they want to. They can make you do this if you have High blood pressure or diabetes.

i'm type 1 diabetic, every year doctor give me a 1 year dot med card, told me also that b-m-i will play into med card next year, told him, fine, flunk me so i can file for disabilty since you don't want me to drive for a living.... always pass blood pressure, under 150 on diabetic, pick on the people that deliver your goods,,,,, they aren't doing this sh@@ to drinkers/drugies/texters/etc...lol

Just got my physical, on a mild bp med. 141 over 80. Main thing was the body mass index and neck size. May have to take a sleep test. Bp runs 120 or less at my endocrinologist. Got it for a year cause takin pills for bp. Rest of the sleep apnea stuff is bs in my opinion, lot of guys gonna have to spend a lot of money to keep driving.

Ya, I've heard about the BMI thing too. If that comes into play it will wipe out 1/4 of the drivers on the road. Like you say, may be time to quit fightin them and join them.

ya let them tell me im to fat & ill join them, sign up for disability & food stamps , free health insurance , no BS from cops & DOT anymore , life is good then , soon i can get a prescription for pot here in Pa & get my drugs for free too, got to love this country , LOL

Bob, you mentioned the druggies, of which there are many. Anyway, Marilyn's sister works at a DOT drug testing station and she told me she has to personally observe every person who pees in the cup. I told her I didn't know if I'd hate having a gal watch me any more than a guy. Jim

I am 67 years old and have been on BP meds for 35 years. I am driving OTR full time. I do take a physical every year but as long as the BP is under 140 they don"t care. I am currently on 3 meds and have been for 15 years and just passed my physical in Dec.
