OT, Online School......

Good Morning. Many of you are probably on your 4th cup by now, but here in North ID, I, Bryce Frazier, am just getting my tired @$$ out of bed! Many of you know that I do all of my schooling through IDVA (Idaho Virtual Academy) and that is the reason why you are all plagued with me on here all day. :) BUT while only doing school for 3 hours, and then working in the shop all day may sound good, there are days, like today, where it sucks!!!
Yesterday, I couldn't get into any of my classes with my teachers, so I had to just do my normal lessons, and then be done for the day. (Thats my usual routine)
Today, I STILL can't get into any of my classes, and when I try to access my courses it says error -1??? So, looks like a snow day! woohoo....
Sorry this was pretty far off topic, kind of looks like a rant? To get it back towards topic though, I found those numbers for the Shares I need for my Case Plow. Grand Detour AB 140 share, and DX14 Moldboards. THANKS for listening, or reading for that matter! Bryce

Shar glad to here some one is gottn them learnins, LOl I wished I would have had the internet. Hated school, but didn't turn out to bad.

Those darn Internet schools will be the death of us highly qualifies, underpaid regular school teachers.

Now that I have retired from 30 years of teaching high school Physics, maybe I can get a job doing the online classes. How do I issue a student an after school detention for behavior?

Well now do be so negative! It is still a public school, I still have a teacher for every class, I just get every thing done more quickly and I don't have to spend 45 min driving to school, and then another 45 coming home! I think that it is a great alternative.
Not sure how to do detention, but you can remove them from class!

Interesting Brice,
We are looking at these options for my kids in the coming years. Its probably not for every kid out there, but for some I think it really works.

There needs to be a bit of a balance with the social aspect and the academic... Thinking back, if I could have got all my school work done in a few hours and then gone to the barn and work on some projects, I would be pretty happy too.

The school systems are not what they were 20 years or even 5 years ago.

I personally really like it. This particular school is free because it is state funded, and they send you everything, books, computer, printer, etc. It used to be a really top end school, but it has been "dummbed down" a little.

Bryce- you sound like a grounded, well organized guy. That is what it takes to be successful with on-line education at any level. Without parental intervention, most of my students would do little or no schoolwork and play video games all day.
Keep up the good work!

My wife got her degree online. She graduated with a 4.0 average. Then she took a course in energy management. She now has a good job with a nationwide company, works from home online and is a Teachers Assistant for her former teacher.

I think getting your kids to avoid the "socialization" is probably a GOOD THING in most schools!!! Hormones give us enough issues without TV and the thugs at school teaching them more bad habits.

The one thing to watch for with on line education is whether or not the credits are transferable. My oldest girl took a course form University of Phoenix. Cost a good deal, but no where near as bad as regular college. Despite U of P's promises and assurances, the credits WERE NOT transferable, or even recognized for that matter. I don't know if it's The Big Education Industry playing games to keep the cash cow or if there's any actual difference in quality of ed, but IMO if post secondary ed is soooo important, then low cost, convenient on line courses should be supported, not penalized.
