this farm was a dairy, the farm was purchased by the town,if the town did not purchase it,It was going to be developed into a large housing development by the Toll bros.

,, that's better than a house, I guess ,,.. their ought to be a law to protect these farms and keep them in production ,,,one of these days a lot of people are gonna want milk and bread ,,.

That last one is one heck of a long barn. I'd hate to carry bales even half the length of it's mow. Looks like its in pretty good shape. Jim

Hunterdon county has only ONE active dairy. It is just south of Ringoes. I drove a hay wagon for Dairy Day there in 1995 I think.

Those look very familiar, are they in the one of the Brunswick areas ? I rode with my girlfriend and her daughter on one of the pumpkin rides, it looks vaguely familiar. The other one you speak of, say around the year 2000-2001, is that the one the town took on eminent domain, condemned it and literally took it ? It sounds exactly like the one, a multi generation farm. I remember reading the story in the newspaper and it made me think how the place we have here is in a similar situation, though they'd have a real problem if it was attempted, this particular situation near you stands out very clearly. I am starting to forget the roads and places, but I did spend a lot of time in that area. The middle photo looks like the one we went on the pumpkin ride in the back there was flat fields, and east and west was residential, farm was tucked in there, surrounded, and the highway was from where you took the photo ? Maybe I am wrong, forget, but sure looks and sounds familiar

Larry of the Corner Stine,

Neat old barns. Thanks for posting.

Will have to go looking through pics when I have time... I have one of a really long barn too, but it looks A LOT different. :)

no,the eminent domain one was in Edison, the people didnt want to sell their farm and the town took it to make a park, these barns are more towards somerset, hunterdon co area

Oh ok, was wondering, not something I liked to hear about, beautiful barns though, can't say we have many around here, there was a farm nearby has one converted into another use, big like those, there was a pair, I think I have photos in the town history book.

my brother knew the family you were thinking of.They had no intention of selling their farm, the mans mom wanted to live the rest of her life there, and the son wanted it to be that way they were not behind in taxes, the town just wanted it for what they called open space for the good of the comunity, and made them get out,It is true, its a matter of public record,,,,Edison nj,,,,cornell dairy,,,look it up,,,thanks for asking about it,I Should have posted it before,,,,,i always read your posts with interest although I Dont always reply I enjoy all your posts,,,thanks,,,Larry

Thanks Larry for the barn photos. I enjoy looking at barns , new or old ones. The real barn or In a picture. clint

Thanks for the additional information, that one really stood out because of the means they used to take it. I don't have any ties or connections to the area, but I felt violated by what they did just the same it was highly controversial and seemingly very unfair.

Same here Larry, I still have a strong familiarity with all the places I lived in NJ, though age may dull the memories a little. I really enjoyed life when I lived there, more so than now I think, but like you, also enjoyed the privilege of going home on weekends when I did. Its nice to see what you post, between your work, the farms, both NJ and PA and all the things you enjoy, it enriches the spirit, intrigues the mind and is always something to appreciate year after year.

And in that good spirit, I am going to sneak off to Vermont tomorrow morning, headed to where Bob Keeshan (captain kangaroo) lived in Hartford, to buy a M-F #25 disc, so I can you know continue on with this tillage of the earth and grow some vegetables LOL !
