Magnetic oil pan heater

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience with a magnetic oil pan heater? From what I read all I need to do is stick it under the oil pan and it should keep the oil warm enough for cold starts.

I have one I've been using for about 14 years and have had great luck with it. While they're probably not as good as a coolant heater they do help a lot and are easy to use. Along with helping to get the engine running you can use one to help thaw out your hydraulics if they get frozen up.

I have a 200 W one and use it every once in awhile. I plug it in along with a immersion block heater and after 2 hours the tractor starts immediately. (JD 4600) You have to remember their low wattage and out in the wind would not be very effective. Our tractor is in an unheated garage but it stays warmer than outside, and there is no wind. But it is 1 mile from the Canadian border!

They don't put out much heat. I use one on my Cub. Also use it on the hydraulic resivor (sp)
on the bale bed on my feed truck.Really helps when it get down around zero.

I use a 200w on the fuel tank, one on the oil pan, and the original Oliver coolant heater on a 1650D. With a 1/4 tank of fuel in a calm -10, plugged in overnight it warms fuel in the tank to 50 degrees F, spins over and starts immediately like it was summer.

How long do you leave it on? And do you put it on and take it off or just leave it attached all winter?

they work good your oil pressure will come up like it was summer and I use it outside. you still need a coolant heater . I tend to leave the 200 watt magnetic heater on at least 12hrs before I want to start and plug the coolant heater in about an hr before starting ( its a tank heater 1200watt)

300watt external magnet oil pan heaters work good in the warmer South, South Eastern and South Western states.
In order to pre-heat the combustion chamber in real winter conditions. Pick something out from the following link that heats the coolant with 400 to 2000 watts.

Those magnetic heaters do not make contact with the pan other than the magnets. Not 100% heat transfer. A block heater will heat the oil just by heating the coolant. Cold oil has never been a problem starting cold engines. No heat in the combustion chamber is always the culprit with cold starts.
