Winter Work Horse Sale

Went to Draft horse sale in Kalona Ia. Mon left house at 4:30am got home 8:30pm very good sale several nice well broke Teams price was any where from 3k to 7.5k per Team there are no cheap Teams anymore even colts were high 1k to 2k per head just a really fun sale to attend I go every year probably over 1000 people at sale they always work the Teams in the lot so you can see what your buying before sale begins glad the Draft market has came back strong again

Grandpa would breed the same mare to the same stud 2 years in a row, so in 3 years, he would have a matched, broke team. He would take them to a sale in Marysville Missouri. Amish area. They were asked to drive in the ring, and back up. His teams were the only ones that would back in front of that crowd! Others were too distracted. He usually had Belgians, sometimes Percherons, some times Strawberry Roans!

GOOD draft horses are high now. Run of the mill or poor horses are cheap as dirt. That's how it should be I suppose.

I look forward to auction season every spring. Nothing better than a good Amish auction on a nice spring day IMO! :D

I've always wanted to go to that sale, but it's bad timing for me. Glad the market is still up. Makes me feel better about feeding my 4..lol! Bob
