If you have recently purchased any .22 L.R. with round nose lead it might be a good idea to check Winchesters page regarding a recall. Seems two lots got out with twice the specified amount of powder.

Don't think the error could be due to working overtime seven days a week for months and months on end do you? Wish people would quit hording.

As a matter of fact I don't think the error would be due to working overtime, I'm sure the manufacturing process is heavily computerized and some glitch caused the computer to direct another machine to double the powder. People hoarding or not hoarding has nothing to do with it, who is hoarding anyway? where are they getting enough at one time to hoard? There is one store I know of that allows people to buy any amount of 22 ammo they want when they have it in stock, which is not often, all the other stores limit people to one box. I have had some 22 ammo on back order for over 6 months and know people who have it back ordered a year or more, there is something else going on with 22 ammo besides so called hoarding. I have read that it is simply less profitable than other ammo so it takes less priority, I don't know if that is true but it makes sense to me.

It would be nice to HORD some if ya could find it . I have not seen one box of 22 anyplace i have been . Just like i have not seen a 357 Mag. around here in i don't know how long.

I must not have any of the recalled ammo. That tom cat I shot at this morning jumped three feet in the air and took off when the bullet went underneath it. I thought I'd allowed for enough drop but I guess not. Jim

Just bought 2 550 round boxes of federal .22lr at walmart on my way home from work tonight. There were probably 15 more of the same boxes in the case. I wouldve bought more, but at 23 and change apiece, I figured 1100 rounds on top of what ive already got should be plenty.

Does your Walmart limit you on how much you can buy? Our Walmarts limits number of cartons you can and another Wally world 13 miles away limits the number of cartons and wants to see drivers license.

Yes, they do limit you to 3 boxes of any caliber at one time. I was also asked by the clerk today if the ammo was for use in a handgun or not. first time ive been asked that. So, i asked him why do you have to ask if its for use in a handgun or not? He said, I dont know, popped up on the register screen to ask. So my question is, why do they care what i use the product that ive legally purchased with my money for?

Let me clarify that a bit. They limit it to 3 boxes of ammunition per visit, regardless of caliber. Pick out 3 boxes, and thats it.

I think each store has its owen set of rules. Here a good one today I went for a medicare wellness checkup and they asked if I had guns in the house and I answered none of their bussiness if I did or didn't and they marked it down as no.

Wallyworld 45 mi. from me had about 10, 50 rnd boxes. Limit 3. Was glad to get the 3. Three grandsons have been out for awhile. Now they can go bag a few rabbits.

i do not think people are hoarding,as much as the Govt. is buying it all up I suppose the thinking is if we cant stop the people from having guns we can limit the availibility of the ammunition, and get the same results!

I ordered a Remington "Bucket O Bullets" (1,400 rounds 22LR from Sportsman's Guide on January 1st, 2013. Their latest revised ship date is February 18th, 2014...I'm not holding my breath but for $55 and free shipping, I'll leave them on order.

CR, your comment is not entirely inaccurate. I suppose I should stop here so this doesn't get poofed.

MarkB and JF,

.22 rimfires are loaded with a fairly fast burning powder and there defianetly is room enough in the LR case for a double charge.

I have pulled some duds (not from Win.)and there is 2 grains of powder in them. Not much room for more. They must be using a different powder that only takes half in a normal load. I think a good .22 could stand a double charge anyway.

Boy this one got off track. I received an email from Winchester yesterday advising of the problem on some ammunition and recall. It stated personal injury or death could result. My only intention was to prevent an accident. Sorry if anyone took my original message out of content.

Seems pretty real to me. A bolt action might survive, I expect issues with automatics, Pumps, and many older breach mechanisms. Head splits and total rim fracture are certainly possible allowing radical gas blowback into the shooters face as well as tremendous noise. Not good. Jim
