Carburetor leaking gas.

So I was using my tractor yesterday moving snow and got it stuck. When it was stuck it was leaning towards the left side. When I got off of the tractor the carburetor was leaking gas. What could. Cause this. I just rebuilt the carburetor with a basic rebus kit.

If it is leaning too far the float won't raise enough to stop the fuel flow. How much of a lean are we talking? If it was more of a lean than you see when you are running it (and it doesn't leak normally) just put this little incident in the back of your mind until you forget it.

If it wasn't much of a lean you should probably open it up. There may be enough play in the float hinge that it is binding on the side of the carb OR enough play that it is moving to the side and not letting the needle seat to shut off the fuel. If the float is new grab it and wiggle it to see how much play is there. There's lots of cheap junk out there. If it is old buy a new quality one.

What could cause that well a few different things could.
#1 the float sticking in some way
#2 a bit of dirt under the needle
#3 you did not tighten the needle seat down tight enough
#4 the kit had a rubber tipped needle and you dod not do a set on the tip by dropping it in the seat then taping on it a few times
#5 the float has a hole in it and you did not notice that.
And probably a few things I left out

The carb doesn't leak normally. It was probably just leaning too far. When I rebuilt the carburetor I adjusted the floats and replaced the valve.

I just put this little unit on my Oliver 77. I've had one on my 1600 for over a dozen years. Turn off the ignition switch,it shuts off the gas.

Thats is a pretty good idea to put a solenoid in front of the carburetor.

I was unaware of the procedure to seat the valve. I guess I need to look into that.

Thanks for all of the help.

Ya those new rubber tipped needles need to have a set put in them to seal as they should. You drop the needle in the seat an tap on it a few times. If you then look at the rubber tip you should see a sort of ring that is what is called the set. Learned that from a old carb guy years ago. Hes gone now but at least I saved a bit of his knowledge

No,it's out of a nitrous kit. The one on the 1600 looks just like it though. That one is a normal gasoline line shut off from a New Idea UniHarvester.
