Hey forgot to tell you the reason you can see like never before after cataract removal is they replace your old lens with a new one like a permanent contact lens. Let me know how you do Stephanie

I had mine done 18 mos ago no real discomfort or anything else. will have other eye done when they cant service it to clear view. nothing to scared about CC

Nothing to be afraid of. I had both of mine done 11 years ago. I don't know about the laser surgery, but with mine they gave me a General Anesthesia (you're awake but you just don't feel anything). Also, you need to bring another person with you who can drive you home because they won't let you drive because of the Anesthesia. With me the Doctor made a small, stepped incision on the outer edge of my eyeball, inserted a probe and broke up my lens with ultrasonic sound waves. Then they vacuumed out the particles and put in the new plastic lens. The lens is soft, flexible plastic and is rolled up & about the diameter of a pencil lead. They just insert it, unroll it, and position it in place using a special microscope. I had the Left eye done first, then had to wait a couple of months to make sure there were no complications, and then went in and had the Right eye done.

Because I was unable to get anyone to drive me home when I had the Right eye done, I had to sign a special waiver because I opted to have the surgery done with NO ANESTHESIA. They said that in all of the years that they had been doing that procedure, I was only the second person to do it with NO Anesthesia. YES, it's a little bit painful and you feel EVERYTHING that they do, and when they're done - no more pain, and I drove myself home (93 miles) .

My wife had both done a year and a half ago. They did them two weeks apart to give the first eye time to heal before they did the second eye.

Each eye took only about 15 minutes with a local anesthesia. She had to wear a patch over the eye overnight, and go back the next day to have the patch removed and the eye checked.

She couldn't believe how much better she could see. The only discomfort was after the first one was done, and before the second, her vision was a bit messed up because she could see a lot better out of one eye than the other and it threw her eyeglasses off. After a two month wait to let both eyes heal completely and adjust, she got new glasses.
