Oil in Coolant

Now that the temp outside has got above 0 I have decided to tear down my skid steer engine. I have a bad head gasket and it has oil in the coolant. What is the best way to get the oil out after I drain it. I am going to try and get what is floating on top in the rad before I drain it. Thanks

Can you keep adding water and the oil that floats will be on top of the water and just float out of the top of radiator. We poured soap in the radiator on a 70 ford pickup with that problem. drove it until radiator was hot then drained it and did it again until we didn't see any more oil.

1 part simple green + 3 parts water for first flush. Then 1 part simple green + 5 parts water for secound flush. Then 1 part simple green + 8 parts water should drain out clean. And of course a couple flushs with clear water.

We had a truck at work that the tranny cooler leaked (Allison automatic) and had a Cat engine. Cat uses Cascade dishwasher soap, doesn't foam up and did a good job. But it was summer time so didn't had to worry about the cold and freezing. But I did put a garden hose hookup to the block and once I had the engine good and hot I would run a hose from the hot water heater and push hot water in the block and out the top of radiator to flush everything out. One note dissolve the soap in a bucket then pour into the engine, pouring the granules into the radiator will plug it up and will take a while to dissolve. chris

I started using boiler scale remover a few years ago to clean calcium deposits out when nothing else would. Label lists radiators, heat exchangers, and boilers as uses. It gets oil and mud pretty well too, just be careful if you use it, its nasty acidic.
