OT---Computer question

My main [b:54eb355f50]"Yesterday's Tractor"[/b:54eb355f50] Computer is inoperative!
I have checked everything I know how to but can't get connected to internet.
It does not recognize as having a way to connect! All my other computers operate from a router and this one does also.
All I have is a [b:54eb355f50]BLACK SCREEN[/b:54eb355f50]--I know about "safe mode" but how can I set a restore point without the modem?

WARNING----some terms may be incorrect LOL !!

Operating system and brand/model, as well as if it has a separate monitor. Change the monitor to see if it has gone toes up. Jim

Don't understand you. Does it load and just not go to the internet or when you turn it on it just has a black screen?

If it's the former there should be a small icon on the lower right of your screen with a connector and monitor. If your connection failed click on that and it will prompt you with available actions or say you are connected. Just follow the instructions.

If you try to boot the computer and only get a blank screen does it seem to be booting normally? If so you may have a video issue with your card or your monitor may be bad. Quickest way to check is to try another monitor that you know is good.

When I go to computer the screen is black, I can move the mouse and there is a dropdown box that states "modem status". It tries to connect with three different connections.
It states that connection can not be made and then it goes to sleep.
TOTAL BLANK-BLACK screen

THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THINGS THAT CAN CAUSE A BLACK SCREEN AT STARTUP. DO NOT TAKE ADVISE ON THIS MATTER. TAKE TO REPAIR SHOP IMMEDIATELY. IF U CONTINUE TRYING TO START UP, WILL POSSIBLY DAMAGE MORE. TRY ONE THING ONLY. WHEN TURN ON,PUT IN SAFE MODE, PRESS AND HOLD F8. FOLLOW PROMPTS IN ORDER. IF DOESNT START, TAKE TO SHOP.
