valve problem??

The intake valve (right side in picture) caused the intake push rod to "collapse" and also looks like that valve stem is "riveted" some which I suspect is not normal. I"m strongly suspecting that the intake valve stuck to cause this.

The engine (Generac 15 HP) was running just fine and suddenly stopped as if the ignition had been shut off. It powers a portable electric generator.

Do you fellows think my suspicion is correct??

BOTH OF THESE VALVES ARE JUMPED OFF. LOOKS LIKE THE PUSH ROD ON BOTH SIDES BROKE. BOTH ARE COMPLETELY TURNED AROUND. THEY ARE HEX BOLTS HOLDING THEM. THEY WILL UNSCREW. THE PUSH RODS MAY BE BROKEN OR JUST DROPPED IN OPENING. TAKE LOOSE, FIND RODS,SET BACK DOWN LEAVING ABOUT 15 CLEARENCE.

Yes, I'm aware of that. We took it apart as it shows in the picture and discovered one push rod collapsed. I have both push rods out and am wondering if I need to pull the head and check the valves.

Is this the old aluminum push rod on the intake side issue?

Run synthetic oil and prevent this problem.
Usually.

Since both are off I would pull the head and check the valves.

Thanks. Yes they are aluminum push rods. Both look the same except for the collapsed one from the intake side.

Yes, the end of the intake valve does appear to be hammered. That will have to be replaced, which means pulling the head, which will reveal if the valve is stuck, or bent, or something hit it, or?

Possibly the aluminum push rod slowly collapsed, causing excess valve clearance, which led to hammering the valve, finally enough slop let the rocker turn and the pushrod fell out. Might want to replace the rocker too.

Bono, you neglected to tell him to put the wire back on the spark plug.

Thanks Steve. Lots of good advice from all of you fellows who responded.

See my recent post of my photo of the push rods. The collapse is very noticeable and since I didn't do the valve lash adjustment like I was supposed to, the clearance became large enough to cause these problems.
