Printer problems

I have a lexmarkX5650 printer. When I want to print some thing off the computer I click print on the mouse and before it will print I have to shut the computer off and then turn it back on. What am I doing wrong?

From my experience it is an issue with the printer communication. (assuming it is a USB connection)First effort might be to remove the connector from the computer and reconnect it to a different USB port.
If no Joy, I would look inside the operating system to set the printer port to - Virtual USB printer port - (assumes Windows operating system) But you have not given us much info in that area, we really need the name, like Windows XP Pro or what ever.
If no joy I would reinstall the printer driver.
Again we do not know if this just started, or if it has always done this.
The Printer does not have a Tractor Feed so it can't be that. (the previous sentence is to keep this post tractor related)
I must tell you that Lexmark printers are my last choice ever. None of the printers from Lexmark that I know of are still in use by me or anyone. They seem to be disposable, and fault prone. Jim

I had the same problem with the same molder printer. I found if you turn on the printer manually before you touch print it solved my problem. Good luck

I have had a 8500 OfficeJet Pro from Office Depot for about 2 years. It has been a workhorse. My wife prints thousands of documents for her business, and it has been essentially flawless. It scans and faxes, and copies. We got it on sale for about 150. The cartridges are pretty expensive, but also massive and individual so only the one that is empty gets replaced.
Canon is another brand that is worthy of consideration. Make sure it has a replaceable purge cleaning reservoir. SOme models hav no way of replacing the place that the cleaning ink gets squirted.
I like HP personal sized LaserJet printers for black and white output. they are less expensive to operate per print by far if color is not important. Jim

I kinda lean to HP for printers. I have a Deskjet 4440 that's a good five years old. Over the years, I've probably spent 20 times as much for cartridges than I did the printer itself.

But, it's fast. My wife has a new Canon, and this old HP will run rings around it.

The printer should be left on 24/7 along with the PC. The worst thing you can do to them is cycle the power. They wont use more than a watt or two an hour.
Try using the preview, before you print.

If you don't need color a HP1102 Laser printer is nice and the price is reasonable. If you want color or need a printer/copier/fax/scanner an HP or Epson will do.
