Am looking for AW 32 Hyd oil. Keep finding ASO 32 Hyd oil. I am thinking that ISO is the new standard and that they are the same? Searched google and could not find that they are or are not same. This would be for a front loader, seperate pump.
Thanks joe

ISO = International Standards Organization
It replaced a lot of older ratings and is to be used World Wide.
AW = All weather
32 is the designation given to the viscosity of the oil which is the same in the 2 examples you gave. Hope that helps.

The way I understand it, ISO refers to the viscosity. ISO is a more standardized way of measuring the viscosity. If you pull up a viscosity chart, you will find a wide variety of measuring viscositys, there's SAE, gear oil, etc., then ISO.

The prefix, AW or RO refers to an additive package.

AW is anti wear, it has a zinc additive, or extreme pressure additive, good for sliding motion, like hypoid gears. However, it supposedly is detrimental to brass and bronze.

RO is a rust and oxidation additive. Good for cold gear boxes that tend to collect moisture.

Which do you use? Whatever the manual calls for, if available. If not, weigh the differences. I've mixed and matched and really haven't had a true lubrication failure.

Also found this:

ASO OIL reinforcement contains extremely fine particles of molybdenum disulphide for addition to all types of basic mineral oils forming a stable suspension.

Another anti wear additive.
