OT Motorcycle Cannonball Cross Country Race

I have 2 interests in old stuff. Old tractors (Case is my favorite and what I grew up with) and antique motorcycles. This coming September 2014 the 3rd Motorcycle Cannonball is going from Daytona Beach, Florida to Seattle, Washington.

I am entry #109 and will be riding a 1925 Model JD Harley Davidson. Go to the website and if our route is passing anywhere near you if would be our pleasure to have you as a guest at any of our stops.

All participating motorcycles will be 1936 and earlier and can be from any country. You will be seeing a lot of nice old iron and probably quite a few brands you have never heard of before.

This is what I started with:

Ths first picture is what I started with and the second picture is what it looked like at Christmas. Today the chassis is almost all done.

LOL now that's funny, the rest day in Junk Town KS. I know they could have picked a much nicer place to stop.

Wish it was running further north.

Glad someone else has a interest in old motorcycles. I like my old tractors also, they make me money to spend on my motorcycles. My 36 Indian four would qualify for the race, doubt I would. The cannonball cross county is a good test of old machines, and riders, Hope you do good, and finish. Dad had a 29 JD, would like to find one someday. Stan

Sorry to say my '42 WLA is just too modern! Who'd have thought... :)

I'll be stopping by to see you when you're at one of the Tennessee stops. Looking forward to it. Love that old iron....

That's a classic. Brother had a Indiana Chief. He sold it for $125 back in the 1960's. He is now the President of the I Should Have Kept it Club. I'm going to guess you will never sell yours, right?

My body starts to hurt just looking at the hardtail.

What year did they put shocks and springs on the back? I think my Brother's Indiana had rear shocks/springs. I think Brother's left twist grip was the spark advance. Don't see one on yours. Notice you have a gear shifter on left of tank.

Do you have a 37Chief too?

Great combination.....Case tractors and old motorcycles. I was fortunate to be back in Iowa at my mother's when the Cannonball came thru last year. I was at the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa Iowa in the late afternoon when all of the bikes where coming in from the days run. Spent the evening in the motel parking lots watching "repairs" to get ready for the next days run. Watched guys change an engine in a Henderson four and seal up the cracked case in an old Harley.
It's one thing to look at old motorcylces in a museum or at a show, buts it a whole other thing to do what these guys do. Good luck and keep us posted

I never sell anything, when I do I regret it for years. As for the shocks It was around 1941 Indian put them on the rear. I have a 37 Chief, and stopped riding it, because it is so rough. I have a 48 Chief that I ride, it has shocks, and is a lot softer on the fanny. My shift is on the left, because every since I have been riding, the throttles have been on the right. At my age it will be real easy to get things mixed up. So to keep my throttle on the right I had to put the shifter on the left. spark is also on the left maybe just hasen't been installed yet. Stan

You got a long way to go to look like this good Luck and let us see the finished product.

Nice looking machines. If you were to ever sell one, you would become a member of my brother's "I Should Have Kept it Club" or short "The Shoulda Club"

If a stray bike were to join the group for a few miles on the way, would that be frowned upon? I am near Clarksville, TN., it would be interesting to ride along for a few miles and enjoy the experience, although my bike is only 33 years old.

I went on the first 2 Cannonballs and we had some bikes that followed us all the way and regularly we had bikes that tagged along for a few miles or even a few days. Its a good party.

I always wanted a 36 or 37 upsidedown 4 but the only thing I could afford is a 1934 Indian 4 that I found in an old shed near Inverness, Quebec in 1998. Price was right but the engine is shelled and I have never done anything with it.
