Old Farmers Almanac and Snow

The last time I graded the drive, I found a fuel leak on my Oliver 1650 diesel, one of the plastic T fittings split. I hoped I could wait until warmer weather to fix it. On the radio this morning, they were quoting from the Old Farmer's Almanac that we are to get 30 inches of snow between today, January 30 and February 5, 2014. Guess I need to get out and fix the leak now as it is finally up to +25 degrees.

Don't know about 30 inches- Unless you get lake-effect snow, most of the Midwest gets their moisture coming in from the west- and we haven't had enough in the past 3 weeks to wet your whistle.

At the rate that the Great Lakes are freezing over, they were saying the other night that lake effect might not be an issue much longer. They said it'll be colder, but sunnier skies and less lake effect snow.

At noon today, watching channel 32 news from Louisville. They are watching a big storm system that is still over the Aleutian Islands and they are saying Monday-Thursday of next week it should hit here. Depending on wind shift, it could be rain, could be snow. We have had more snow this winter than the last 3 combined. I am ready for spring!

I was just thinking this morning that if we have anything to do,we might as well suck it up and just get out there and do it. I'm getting so used to it that sitting and thinking about it is a hundred times worse than going out in the cold and getting it done.
I sure didn't want to go out there and grind feed this morning in that wind. Then when a chain ran off at the bottom end of the auger that feeds in to the mill,I sure didn't want to take the rusty bolts out of that shield to fix that, but it was done and I ground two loads in less time than it took to sit here dreading it.

I always get "the Old Farmers Almanac" and enjoy READING it..BUT..they MISSED our Jan weather Completely.............(Central, Ohio)..

NOT even close..

I am not looking at their predictions anymore for this year..!!
