the 544 starting problem -- I found the starting problem -- the little flapper that is fixed to the choke plate was ready to fall off and make its way right up the intake -- there is a half inch hole in the choke plate that is covered with a small plate -it was floppin around like a guppy_- fixed it with a good cleaning and a new gasket -- started up just like my M and thanks to all with your insight-- put it back together and it fired off in 3 turns--pushed the choke in and it never missed a beat

I missed the post, but you proved something very important, that you are mechanically inclined, versed. These days, a lot of people can't say that. Congratulations, and use her in great health. You did very well and can be proud of yourself.

I had a feeling it was in the plate. Good fix. When parts are sucked into the engine they make a bunch of nasty racket. Jim
