Kewanee Cultimulcher parts? Am I out of luck?

a specific bellcrank assembly that lifts the machine is in many twisted pieces.

Does anyone know what happened to Kewanee? Did anyone pick up their parts supply?

If that's a no go option... I have a Kewanee no. 88 15 footer. I think the part is the same on the 12 and 10 footers. Does anyone know of one in a fencerow or a salvage yard?

Bush hog bought them out. AGCO dealer may be able to get
parts I had a Kewanee disk that I could no longer gets cushion
gang springs for. Seemed a shame to have to get a different
disk because parts weren't available anymore.

Thanks Curt. It doesn't inspire confidence in my decision to get a Kewanee, though!!!

I bet it also means that a lot of the salvage yards are probably picked clean... Oh my...

They come up as supplier of parts for Kewanee Disc Harrows. They claim knowledge of part numbers etc. Even if they could just come up with part number and not the part. Let me know as I have several NOS sources to check.

Good luck, Bill

Bill,

Thanks for the contact information! I think I did see there website pop up, gave them a call and they basically deal in just the normal wear parts, but not any structure or linkages.

However, I WILL have to give them a call some day soon, because they apparently sell complete gangs for disks and that is awesome. I hate trying to get a gang tight. I am just not good at it or something.

mkirsch,

That's what I thought, too. I deal extensively with steel fabrication, and suppliers, and I also have quite a few fab shops that I use when I get too busy or don't have the right tools for the job.

I wish I had the part to take a picture to show you. It's a fairly complex part, that is basically a big bellcrank. It is built from a piece of steel pipe, that is actually not steel pipe from what I have been told. The pipe is not welded where the rolled steel meets end to end. One fab guy I deal with said that it could be to cushion any hard jarring from use. Because it was not welded, it twisted along the unwelded seem, similar to the same torsional affect of wringing out a dish cloth, collapsing it in parts, and expanding it in other parts. The bear of the situation is that they have checked with steel suppliers from here(the steel city) all the way to Cleveland, and no one can get a piece of pipe that is the correct outer diameter in a substantial thickness. It's at a fab shop right now, and he is going to try to make a substitute somehow, but, he has had it since October, and it is almost February now. If he can't put humpty dumpty back together again, I'll have to try it myself. I am not looking forward to that, especially if I could just go buy a new one. I'm half tempted to look into buying a Kewanee 90 which is a flat fold 20 footer, that is only a little over 12 foot wide when folded. The way it is now, I have to hire trucking to move the 15 footer I have from one farm to the next, because I can't pull it down the road, being close to 17 feet wide including the frame.

I see guys out west and north of here that can take a 6 row combine down the road with the head on it, and I am jealous. I guess that is the price you pay for living this close to the city of Pittsburgh.

I went off on a tangent about wide machinery not fitting down roads and forgot to finish my though... sorry...

What I was getting at was that if I bought the 20 footer, I could keep the 15 footer, eat the $4000 I spent on it, and use it as a parts machine for the 20 footer.

Dad still has a Kewanee cultimulcher, but it's his backup machine. Parts availability got iffy long ago.

"Back in the day" we had a great Kewanee dealer. The dealership closed and the Kewanee name disappeared at about the same time. The Bush Hog dealer said he could get parts, but he also said parts were limited to whatever stock still existed (other than maybe hardware, bearings, seals, etc.), and he had no literature to look up numbers to order anything anyway.

If you can come up with a part number, The Parts Depot may have what you need.

Myers Implement south of Elkhart Indiana may have parted a couple of these and could have used parts. They used to close down/scale back operations for much of the winter, though.

Thanks for the information! Who is the parts depot?

I'd almost bet money if there was a NOS one on a parts shelf at one time, it was scrapped for the weight of the metal vs. the diminished value relative to storing a part that long. I know I should think positive at this point, but, it is getting harder and harder as I read these replies!

That myers website looks promising, though. They say a 10 acre salvage yard. That could yield something I suppose.

I think I have some extra clamps that hold the packer wheels in place and some wheel spindles in my parts stash yet that I bought at a dealer auction several years ago. Sorry I can't help you on your piece.

http://www2.depotparts.com/ should lead you everything you need to know about The Parts Depot.

Myers has parted out many packers, but I don't remember/know about mulchers. I don't think I've walked the yard since about the time Kent's dad passed away, and that's been more than a few years ago.

AG in IN,

Thanks for the link! That looks pretty good. I guess I should be trying to find a parts book for the cultimulcher, so I can get the part number.

Also, thanks for thinking of me with your spare parts. I'd hate to buy any of them from you as they obviously aren't easy to get. You wouldn't happen to have parts book for your mulcher, would you?

I looked up myers, then used bing maps to find their address, and looked on the birds eye view maps of their yard. You should try it, it's really neat! I could see 2 or 3 cultimulchers, but pictures were not high resolution enough to tell what make or model. Also, it looks like they just have big piles of random parted out stuff. I guess it is worth a shot. Their website says they are closed on Wednesdays so I will have to wait. I have no idea how cold or how much snow is on their yard right now. They might not be able to find anything if there is a pile of snow on top of it.

I wish I had some salvage yards like that close to me! wow! Are there a lot of places like that out your way?

Sorry Bono I missed your reply.

I tried to give them a call and I didn't get an answer. I looked over their webpage, and they do list Kewanee, but, they also list every single other brand! Not sure what to make of that...

Sorry, I don't have a parts book. I don't have an operator's manual, either. Perhaps the op's manuals have a parts diagram? I don't know.

Hein and Son on the south side of Mishawaka, IN is another source for parts for older machinery in the area. Google or a search on this site will probably find you a phone number and address. If you think Myers looks big from the sky, you ain't seen nothin' until you venture a bit further west.

Worthington Ag's yard at Leesburg, IN is another possibility. They don't seem very enthusiastic when it comes to buying anything without an engine anymore, though.
