Fuel Comsumption of a JD 5410 Plowing Snow

My BIL has plowed our drive twice in the last three days. Probably takes close to an hour. He never accepts much except maybe a couple of cookies or some chili. I'd like to reimburse him some how. How much diesel fuel do you think he uses? I don't want to be like the salesman that my other BIKL took for a ride in his Scarab. Guy offered $10.00 for gas; BIL said he didn't have the heart to tell the guy that wouldn't even get him out of the channel.

3gal/hr. Plowing snow with a loader seems to be very hard on fuel. So if you want to reimburse for fuel, $25 should do it.

Fergie,

Nice that you thought of his expenses. Food, and some cash, perhaps a note of appreciation would go over nicely.

Sorry to state I do not have consumption rates for any tractor.

THe fuel was probably in that 10.00 category, the time and machine and cold tollerance were more. Take him and Wife if any to a sit down dinner. Jim

Just offer him whatever it was worth to you.
I never accept anything when I plow my neighbors out. But I do appreciate it when they at least offer. But I do figure they put up with a little smell now and then from my cattle or a little dust when I work a dry Field. I just figure it as PR on my part and trying to keep the neighbors happy and to get along.
I do know this. I have burnt allot more fuel this winter than I normally do plowing snow. Not to mention the hours and wear I've put on my blower tractor.

Thanks for the input. We do take them for dinner occasionally and we have helped them put plastic over their greenhouse a couple of times. I think its 80 x 120. I just didn't want him to burning $50.00 worth of fuel. We have hit the limit that my TO-30 can handle and we're running out of room to stack it. May look for a 6' snow blower this spring. Either that or a tractor with live hydraulics.

Never hurts to be generous in situations where you really need something done like you say.$50 won't seem like much when you get about half way thru shoveling.Or as others have said if its a person you know really well then take them to a nice place to eat and I don't mean Wendys instead of McDonalds.

I'd give him home made cookies

I just like to get out and drive the tractors - not looking to make money - generate some good will

and the cookies are much appreciated
