delta's post about the onion reminded me; i once worked in a plant that required a lot of raw water drawn in from the tenn. river. in spring there was always a large run of shad minnows and they would be drawn into the strainer system requiring periodic cleaning; removing shad minnows by the thousands, packed and smashed by the force of the water was not a pleasant job. just before lunch one day i finished the job, cleaned up and opened my lunch box for dinner; wouldn't you know it-tuna salad sandwich for lunch.
 
My uncle would grow red onions. When it came to harvesting time I could not do the work because the onions where so strong in smell I would break out in tears. I just almost make it threw cutting to one big one just to make Bread and Butter home made pickles.
