Jay in NY RE Thermocontrol woodstoves in Cobleskill

I thought you might find this interesting. I came across this woodstove for sale this morning in northern Michigan (Alpena). I used to work for a Thermocontrol dealer back in the 70s and often had to go to the factory in Cobleskill. I still heat my barn and workshop with a model 500. Can't say I ever saw one of these little stoves before. I kind of wonder how it travelled over 700 miles to where it is now?

That is interesting JD, when my brother was there the other
week, he saw them loading a trailer with out door wood
boilers, the owner said we can't sell them in NY so we ship
them to MI.? Must be an EPA thing. Keep your eye open,
maybe you will see a owb there someday!

Reminds me, I was to an amish stove making shop, seemed they were all classified as coal stoves. Asked about it and the answer was something about (wink) they could be used for wood but it's an emission classification thing. Seems like coal smoke would be worse than wood smoke?

Not EPA. NY State DEC. DEC decided a few years back that outdoor wood furnaces were a bad thing. All kinds of stupipd ridiculous regulations have gone into effect concerning outdoor funaces recently.

Went to school in Cobleskill and I did have one of their thermocontrol stoves. At that time it was called a mother earth stove. I heated my whole house with it for several years and it worked great. I wish I could find another one.

Don't even get me going on that! Completely STUPID regulation that is right up there next to the SAFE Act as far as common sense and affecting rural people goes!
