Yesterday I opened my lunchbox and got overpowered by onion!Found a red onion.Seems that my wife was half asleep when she packed my lunch...Grabbed the onion instead of the apple. No,I did not eat the onion!

Good for keeping head colds away. If you had a siploc bag and some butter, pop it in a micro wave for a few minuates,MMM--MMMM--GOOOOOOOD.

Favorite box lunch I would pack when I was a kid/teenager was a sandwich with American cheese and some slices of raw onion, on rye bread preferably. The onion would sort of melt the cheese and it would be quite nice by lunchtime. Back then where we lived the supermarkets sold cheese ends for $1.50 a pound or something like that. Out here in NY nobody sells cheese ends and I am too cheap to buy cheese very often at current prices.

I like raw onion on a lot of things. Wife thinks I'am nuts but I like onion sandwichs ( bread ,butter and raw onion). The only thing as you get older raw onion some times doesn't set to good on stomach.

My uncle got a lunch box with a nice foil packed assortment of chicken bones.
He had a bad day figuring out what "special" day he forgot, or what he said that was radically wrong. It turned out that both the chicken sandwich, and the bones were in nearly identical foil wrap, and she "installed the wrong package. She was mortified. Jim

A few years ago while I was at work, three of us farmers sat down at noon to eat our dinner. We all started unpacking our food not paying attention much to each others food until one of the guys pulled out a BUD Light beer! We laughed so hard! Come to find out, he thought the can was a can of diet pepsi! We gave him a lot of crap (jokingly) about having a bad morning at work. It still is a enjoyable memory for us to this day.

Years ago my boss received a lump of coal about fist sized in a plexiglass case from a coal company we did business with. It made an attractive paperweight. He rewrapped it and gave it to his wife for Christmas as a do it yourself diamond. She applied the heat and pressure required, but she applied it to him, not to the coal.

Reminds me of a friend of mine, several years ago, got a new job at a manufacturing plant.

Not being Hispanic, he was definitely in the minority there. As a good will offer, one of the workers wanted to make him and his family a traditional Mexican meal. Next day he came in with a foil wrapped plate, a calf's head!

He looked at it, thanked him and stuck it in the refrigerator.

About a week later he remembered it, well it reminded him when he opened the door and this... smell... He quietly trashed it.

Next day the man asked him how he liked it. "Oh it was the best calf head I ever had!"

So, the next week... Here he come with another one!

"Oh thank you, but you shouldn't have!"

I also like bread, butter, and onion sandwiches. While I was dating my wife year's ago she invited me to her house for supper. They were having fried fish, so you know what I liked with fish, onion sandwich, naturally. She being from the city and not to countrified was kind of embarrassed of such a thing, but soon got over it. I guess it wasn't to bad as our next anniversary will be 50 year's and all in the country. Couldn't get her back to town if I tried.

I like onion on fish sandwich. I get a funny look from people behind the counter when I tell them I want heavy onion on my fish sandwich.

A friend of my grandfather ate a raw onion and drank a quart of milk for breakfast almost every day. Poor fella passed away at 101 - and still had all of his original teeth.

worked with a fella brought a red onion in his lunch every day he would share 1/2 with who ever spoke first

I like onions cooked and a and a little raw sweet vidalia on my hamburger. Last week my brother and I stopped at Hardees and got lunch and ate it as we drove to look at a burnt house. Apparently some onion fell on my shirt and in the pickup. It was so strong later in the day I had to change my shirt and we had to drive the pickup with the windows down for a couple of days. That is the strongest onion I have ever been around.

I like raw vidalia onions when they are in season. Eat just like a biscuit with vegetables. A friend used to make an onion sandwich. He said turn it black with pepper and then turn it back white with salt.

We had a bumper crop of onions this year....about 15,000 lbs on a half acre patch. Needless to say we did not get them all sold and rarely a day goes by when we don't eat an onion! Here is a load of red candies.

Yellow candies are our best sellers. I had about 7 hayracks full.
Here are a couple of loads curing in the barn.

This year the average size was around 2lbs, so the weight added up fast.

We probably had around 3000# that didn't get sold...

The Candy onions that friends raise for market, thousands of pounds a year all planted and harvested by hand are mild enough you can eat them like that, way milder than the Vidalia's that we can buy here. They haven't tries the red candy ones yet. Raised in northeast Indiana. Raise all kinds of produce and there is a produce auction every week just a couple of miles from them. You can only do so much on 40 acres and also feed the cows and horses that do the farm work and also take them to town.

Saw this news clip of a well preserved lady in India and the caption said she ate an onion every day and at 102 was still going strong. In her other hand she was holding a cigarette. Figure that.
