Hydraulic valve question

I purchased a used 2 lever hydraulic control valve. I don't know if it is a "closed center" or "Open center".

Is there any way to determine which way it is?

BTW, I'm 'new' to hydraulics and just trying to learn.

Thanks

Open center valve inlet port is open to outlet port with levers in center. Closed center outlet port is blocked with levers(spools) in center position. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

If "open center", there is an open passage from the inlet port to the return/tank port with the spool(s)centered.

If air blown into the inlet port freely flows out the return/tank port you have an open center valve.

That being said, a lot of valves are convertible to either system by changing a plug.

GOOGLE the manufacturer and model # of the valve you have and find a "spec sheet".

Blow air in the inlet and see if it comes out the outlet with both levers in the neutral position. If it does,it's open center.

You are correct. My Fords used open so that the 3 pt could be used also. My Deeres were closed, whole different hydraulics system and rationale. My log splitter is open.
