I guess we are almost out of LP. Pipe line problems? Price not high enough? Been to Cold? Heard (coffee shop) that large national company. Was only putting in 150 gal to homes. No gas to livestock buildings, schools, churches and businesses. I can't believe they won't put any gas in these places. Told my brother-in-law this but he talked the guy into putting 400 gal in his 1000 gal tank. Any body been turned down for gas? Price has doubled though. Vic

500 gallon tank for my burner has 75% in it. Filled it at $1.76. It'll sit there 'til the next time I need to dry corn. Wood heat in the house. Only myself to blame if my family gets cold...

Been on the news every day for the last few days. There saying make sure you order Propane when you tank gets down to 35% that way you might get some before you run out

Got a delivery today with no problems. I get filled up monthly. The price is $3.399, and if paid within 10 days you get $.30 a gal. off. It's hire than usual but not entirely out of line. Hope it warms up or they stop making up stories about shortages soon. I'm in NE Pa.

Been on NPR that crop drying took about 5 times as much propane as normal. That combined with the cold weather has overrun the propane producers estimate and now we are short of propane and actually importing it.
the propane producers just did not want to make too much and now we are all paying.

WQAD-TV midday news, today, stated "there is no national shortage of propane. The problem is distribution".

Marketwired.com has a post online: "Texas has the fuel, but motor carriers from other states could not get supplies from Texas, because they were not licensed and certified to enter our state," said Texas Propane Gas Association (TPGA) Executive Director Bill Van Hoy

Bloomberg.com states "The problem is that the U.S. has been exporting a large chunk of its propane and propylene bounty."

It seems the commodity traders are making a tidy profit off the whole mess.

It is the American way.
Make money off of the little guys.

That is nuts.

Some small areas took more fuel to dry late planted crops, but
nationally I would be surprised if it took 5% more than normal.

Locally we used less than normal. Corn came out 18 to 15%,
used to be common that corn was 20-21% by the end of
harvest years ago.

My coop was saying they were short on propane in August,
before crops were being harvested here.

Heard on the radio, we historically export 5%, this year we
exported 20%.

Next year looks to be the same, only worse for my area, as a
pipeline is being rerouted for a different use, and it used to
move 40% of the propane used around here....

Will be many more trains and semis running around with
compressed propane next year, not sure that is safer. It will
not be cheaper!

Depends upon where you are. Here in N. TX about 5 companies service the area. Several will meet any price. Mine was $1.95 from a local company about 10 miles down the road. They store thousands of gallons locally and have sub stations across their route. Contract for it a year or so in advance.

Course human nature is always in the play and screw the little guy if you are limited in your supplier and all. I think they call it price gouging.

They wouldn't top off ours for shop heat yesterday (asked him to) not enough to go around he said. $3.52. In NW IN.

After 23 years of propane they ran natural gas in front of my house this fall. They wanted 4000bucks to hook in. I ran out of propane on Dec. 1st. I plugged in to the natural gas. I hope I did the right thing. I haven't got a bill yet.

I would always prebuy my propane in August. I think it was 1.69 per gallon this year. I didn't do it this year knowing I was hooking up to Nat. gas so I didn't prebuy.

a local farm supply store told us today, they just booked a semi load , their cost was $4.25 /gal. to be delivered first of next week.
also they are only filling current customers and only 200 gal per trip. this is mid Mo.

I use about 300 gal a year. maybe more this year. Have 500 gal tank, holds little over 430 gal. Also have full 1000 gallon tank has not been used for 4 years. I can go 2 more years if needed. The used 1000 gal tank has paid for itself years ago. First time I filled it myself and 3 others bought a 3000 gal truck load for under a dollar. That was 10 years ago.

Propane supplier filled me up today - last fill was January 3. Usually they go monthly. Driver assured me they would cover my prebuy contract. My concern is that I bought same as last year. We're probably quite a bit ahead of last year's usage.

I'm locked in for 1.59 a gal until march 31st they didn't fill it last time they where here on Jan 8th cause the truck ran out of gas but haven't heard anything about a shortage around here northern Il

Again I'll ask, where's the guy that said cutting your own wood for heat was a waste of time and money a couple weeks back?
