Case C magneto

We are restoring Grandpa's old C Case. I took off
the magneto and governor for painting, now we find out there are no timing marks on the gear to re-install. Now what?

Get it so the impulse snaps at TDC. You can figure out how.

On the right side of the transmission case just behind the engine flange, there should be a 1/2 inch plug. Remove it, and using the fan, turn the engine until you see a mark on the side of the flywheel; this is TDC. (An alternate way if you're by yourself is to make sure the tranny is in neutral; engage the clutch; and using a large socket, turn the belt pulley shaft.
Set the mag to number 1 and reinstall it.

there are mre than one mark on the flywheel, the D mark is #1 tdc , set the mag to fire at this point, also the mag drive can be adjusted whereever you need bt losening the nut on the drive with a 1 1/4" wrench
