Off topic Toasters

FWIW, I asked about functional toasters on the OT Board a couple of weeks back, and the consensus was Cuisinart makes about the best out there. Haven't got around to buying on,e yet, so have no personal experience to contribute.

Turn your propspecrive two slice toaster over and don"t settle for less than 1200 watts on the nameplate. 1500w is better.
Four slice toasters are a waste of time.
There are high powered toasters and tea kettles on eBay from Europe with higher wattages on 240V.

I think that's why mom still uses her one that she got as a wedding gift all those years ago.
Dad was good at fixing things and was able to keep it tuned up.

We just got a new one - the FOUR SLICE one we had finally gave up the ghost after 22 1/2 years. It was a Toastmaster. The one we have now is a TWO SLICE POS made by Rival. Two slice ones are a waste of time - unless there are no more than 1 of you.

We will be going back to a Toastmaster FOUR SLICE ASAP.

I should add I bought a high end toaster and mid range both 4 slice and they both are slower than molassis in January...

The last one I got at Wally World only toasted one side of the bread. Took it back and told them it didn't work. They put it in the cart to put back on the shelf. No, I didn't buy another, or at least not from them. I have yet to find one that really works good. They either don't toast it or they burn it, but I am not going to spend a hundred on one either. I'll just go to an antique store and get an old one like Mom had. Toast one side and them flip it over and toast the other side.

I've got an oddball here that I bought at a yard sale in Ohio. The darned thing only has one element in each side. On one side of the bread. It's a single tube,no wires. Somehow it reflects off the other side of the chamber and toasts both sides of the bread equal. Only trouble with it is that it won't toast very dark. I have to push it back down for a second go around.
It's a Krups brand.

Once you heat up a square griddle or a frying pan on the stove top it can keep make toast pretty fast.

Wife bought a Cuisinart 2 slice about 2 years ago. Of course it was made in China, and maybe they never made toast there. The darn thing would make the bread too dark on the side towards the center of the toaster and too light on the side towards the outside of the toaster. We got another one on warantee, it did the same thing, so they shipped a 3rd one but it was poorly packaged and was broken when UPS left it. So we got a 4th one, and it did the same poor job on the toast. I looked carefully and it was built with more heater wires in the center section compared to the side element. So of course it will burn the toast on one side and barely tan the other side of the bread. I called the Cuisinart help line again, and they would only refund if we could find the original receipt, and if it was within the 1 year time. With all their screwing around we were beyond the 1 year, so OOL. There will probably never be another Cuisinart product in our kitchen. We bought a much cheaper brand and it works OK, but not great.

Place bread on pizza pan,
Place in oven,
Turn control to "Broil"
Watch closely, when top side
is brown, turn over and repeat
last step.

Wife bought a Kitchen Aid toaster and first slices take longer but after toaster gets warmed up it doesn't take long at all.
