Malt grains.

My brother made home brew, he asked me tonight if my chickens could eat the left over malt? I'm not sure, anybody gave any ideas? I can't see it hurting them, he said he heated it to 150* and only used the water? Thanks.

Yes they can eat it. I make baked dog treats from my spent grains. I brew in a bag BIAB. Picked up this hobby 2 yrs. ago after my sons left for military service. Nice to have a GOOD BREW when fighting rusted nuts and busted knuckles.

Plus the boys like some of the old man's red ales and stouts. Tell your brother to check out homebrew talk dot com for other ideas.

Back in the 70's, we used to buy fermented grain from a dairy. They got it from a brewery, it was what they had made beer from. According to the herdmaster, the fermentation made a lot more nutrients available, rather than just passing through.. Cattle loved it..

Feed it to them the most it can do is give them a buzz LOL. No it will not hurt them a bit and may help with produce more eggs. Sort of like feeding them hot peppers they will produce more egg is you feed them hot peppers for some odd reason

Lol, I told my brother maybe the hens will lay eggs with 5.6% alcohol content, so you can eat breakfast and get blasted! Lol, I may feed it to the horses too!

Ya will not hurt the horses either. If you think about it silage is fermented grain right so it does not hurt the cattle so what you have should be just fine

All the by-product grain from ethanol plants is sold for animal feed. It is called distillers grain and is very nutritional. The grain left over from making beer is called brewers grain and is used the same way.

Let"s just say that......(personal experience here)....if Dad"s corn silage was just a bit too wet..cut too soon...the silo would "run". ie, leak juice. I"ve seen where a wooden silo door was drilled, a tap installed, and a bucket hung under to collect said juice......just sayin"

At least you are getting something out of the process. My Son in law brews and all I have gotten in the two years that I have known him is one lousy six pack!

We got malt from the Olympia brewery for our dairy cows back in the day. Made great feed. The increase in milk production it produced could not be accounted for from the nutient analysis of it. We always suspected it was because it made the cows more "contented".

"Tap the silo".Used to be pretty common in the old days.Produced some wicked, nasty stuff!I think I'd run it through a still and then cut it with water before use.

My parents get the brewers grain from a local brewery and the chickens and cows love it. It's also attached to a restaurant so they get kitchen scraps as well. Nothing beats free when it comes to feed.

There is no alcohol in the grain that is left over from brewing. In the beermaking process the grain is removed from the mash before the yeast is added which is when the fermentation starts. I think your chickens will love the grain and it will be very nutritious for them.

Mike that is a name that I have not of in years Olympia brewery wow that plant has been closed for years. Hauled a couple loads of beer out of there back to spokane Where are you at I am north of spokane Dale
