I've been wondering on the LPG powered tractors how popular we're they? How hard are they to refill your self? Seams like it would be a pain to refill in the field. And how would you do it.

They were very popular in areas. I have had a couple and they aren't bad at all to refuel. When I ran out in the field I just took a 25 lb grill tank out and hooked it in at the filter. Propane sales guy was about 1/2 mile down the road, so I drove it there and back. I talked to the propane truck driver and he woudl stop and top me off when he was in my area.

They were very popular in western Texas. Every farm house had a propane tank out back for the kitchen, water heater, furnace, etc. so propane was always close by. You just bought a special hose and filled your tractor from your tank. Many farmers had a tank mounted on wheels and they towed it to the job site.
You still see LPG tractors of just about every brand (Ford and JD were especially popular) all over that area.

I have several lp tractors, I like them very much, but one thing you need to know is learn and understand lp gas or it can be dangerous just like any gas, very few people are around who use to work on them and really knew what they were doing,Im 62 and sometime it takes awhile to find the problems, and get parts, understanding lp gas is so very important, if you have a leak it flows down not up, never put in a biulding and close door if you might have a leak.Find a book and read about lp it could be very helpful. good luck
