did a kamakazi run yesterday taking the dottir to college in columbia mo. either just before the illinois river bridge on hwy 54 or the mississippi bridge (boy that is a narrow bridge) there is a field on the north side of the highway. looked like 2 or 3 grain bins sitting up about 10 feet or so above the ground on either a steel pipe or concrete column maybe 3 feet in diameter. just had a couple glances as i was driving. i "d guess maybe 2000 bushel flat bottom bins. they were separated by quite a ways between each other. what were they for? no cattle or anything around, looked like a corn field. they had power run to each bin.

Hi Glen: The bridge that takes U. S. 52 across the Mississippi river (had a metal-grate floor as I recall) was narrow as was the Chain of Rocks bridge (even had a bend in the middle) to the south(I was coming home from Ft. Leonard Wood 29 Jan. 1965)(MAN it was COLD that day also!!!!!) but I forget what road that was (U. S. 136 maybe???). Have a happy new year! Armand

I remember Pittsfield, Ill. from years ago, they had a notorious veigh station yust vest of town.
They made shore you didn't have a pound more on the truck than vas allowed.

Those little bins up in the air are pump house"s for city water. They are under ground wells near those little bins. I live about 40 miles east of Pittsfield. Our public rural water comes a well near IL river along I-72.

Wow, would have never guessed that! I was starting to think maybe some kinda mega deer feeder being there inpike county! Thanks for the info.
