They Gotta Eat

Got out to poverty hill this morning and there sits my feeding tractor with a flat.

So, rather than drive 50 miles to get the tire fixed, I fed 'em with the little guy. :>)

With a 15 to 18 hundred pound bale 6 ft. out in front of the front end has to be one he?? of a load for it.

Yep,

She's a little light in the south 40. Hardest part is when I'm lifting the bale into the feeder; have to be real careful 'cause she'll tip in an eyeblink.

Oh no! A tire issue- this will surely have to get the calcium chloride debate going again! The tires on this old gal aren't big enough to hold much weight in CaCl, (which is evil anyhow) You need something substantial hanging on the back end!

(quoted from post at 20:29:49 01/10/14) I am always intrigued by small equipment doing a big job....beating the system. Cool beans.

Glenn F.

All fun and games pretending to be Captain Kirk beating the odds until something gets wrecked or somebody gets crippled.

Whoops.... Now you get to pump that CaCl out before you can repair the tire ;) <grin>. Maybe it'll be a quick fix... Perhaps just a valve stem..

I understand that you've never been on a farm and have no way of knowing, but this kind of work is what these tractors were designed for.

Signed,

Captain Kirk

You tell him Allan.. . Been there done that sometimes a man just has to do what he has to do.
This board makes me wonder how some folks ever got anything done..

I know, maybe Allen should just put 2-3 small square bales on
it, like 2-3 pieces of wood in a stove, now that would be much
more efficient. Roll;(

Live hydraulic for the loader or is it the PTO type pump?? Farmhand loader??

I"m not a bonafide farmer so I haven"t been around "modern" equipment, but I did grow up on a farm and was around the old Farmhand loader that mounted off the back of the tractor and had the big frame up behind the tractor operator. Forgot that old loader"s model #.

Yes, live hydraulics.

This is the Farmhand F-11. The one you're thinking of was a F-10. Spent my young life on those things. One hell of a loader and the Hs and Ms handled them well.

You mean ur not supposed to pull 300 bushels of soy beans down the road at night with an sc case??? Good thing my dad didn't know about that :)

Odd how nobody remembers at the moment the times it didn't work . Tombstones and widows prove that.

Get er done! Gotta love an H. One of my all time favorite tractors. Those little buggers don't know how to quit!

Just like in the nuclear industry and in medical. If we don't have the right tool, we go head anyways, what could possibly happen?

Hells-Bells, forget the Calcium Chloride and just fill the tires with Lead Bird-shot. And you don't have to worry about it freezing, leaking out, or corroding the rims.

LOL!

I think I'd have me a big block of Concrete hanging off the back of that little tractor for counterweight/ballast.

In the real world, people who have to produce analyze the problem, mitigate the risks, then go ahead and do the job. They don"t send someone too lame or stupid or inexperienced to do it, they do it themselves. You must be a non producer, probably a union man who never had be accountable.

Year's ago, my Uncle had a sawmill, and we would haul logs for him. We had an older H with a JD 45 loader on it. We would drag the logs up to a level spot and raise them up with the loader and back the truck under them. Would sometimes have to get a couple guy's to stand on drawbar to keep it stable. It would lift them without any problem, but no way would I try to move the tractor.

 Always amazes me how some can find SOMETHING negative to say about a post. good response.

Naw, B&D is just the guy who's never been wrong about anything in his life, and who never made a bad choice or a bad decision...but only because he's both more educated AND more intelligent than any other man who ever walked the Earth.

Oh, yeah...and he's humble. [OK...I made that part up.]

I don't see the need to brag to the world about operating in a borderline to failure situation.
This country was built on border line to failure situations

What's the big deal. Like he said "They gotta eat." And it would be dangerous if he carried the load up high, but anyone with experience would carry the load low so if something does go wrong, the load hits the ground and that's all. NO danger.

I suppose we should all drive our cars wearing motorcycle helmets and sit in a bubble. Or we could just hide under our beds.

Well at least we know your limit. I thought there was nothing you wouldnt brag about....

(quoted from post at 02:21:42 01/11/14) You sure moan a lot about what other people do,... don't you have a life of your own?

You must be new around here.... this is his life, telling everybody how smart he is. Do you think he could pull this in real life?

Sure was. his smart phone has more computing power than an entire Apollo rocket, and yet they made it to the moon.

OR,it's possible they just faked it in Hollywood, too!

Good lord don't get him started on nasa...

One grandpa did his feeding with an IH M and a F-10 and the other one had JD 630 with a F-10. They are just as good as long as you are bundled up in the winter.

With all due respect, you do have to admit that a round bale that size was INCONCEIVABLE at the time the H was designed and built.

It ain't the right tool for the job, but it will work in a pinch.

Hope you get the tire fixed soon.

I don't think i would ever put a frnt end ldr on a narrow front tractor but if it is all one got then....
on sec thought,..i would not even want to own a narrow front tractor.
